The NBA is filled with young talent, and the Oklahoma City Thunder have a stockpile of it. In the 2021 NBA Draft, the team selected Josh Giddey with the sixth-overall pick, surprising pundits unfamiliar with the Australian-born prospect’s talent. But it didn’t take long for the doubters to see why the Thunder chose him.
\\n
The 6-foot-9 point-forward is a magician with the ball in his hands, commanding the court with veteran maturity and poise. He excels at putting his teammates in positions to succeed and he’s unafraid to crash the glass to reel in rebounds. In his rookie season last year, Giddey averaged 12.5 points, 6.4 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game, and he showed no signs of slowing down in year two. Across 76 starts in 2022-2023, Giddey led the Thunder to a record of 40-42, averaged 16.6 points, 6.2 assists, and 7.9 rebounds per game, and nearly earned his team a spot in the NBA Playoffs. No one expected him or the Thunder to have the success they had, but all eyes will be on this franchise’s future with Giddey being a part of their dynamic backcourt.
\\n
In Season 7 of NBA 2K23, silence the noise and realize your potential in The City (New Gen) and on board The G.O.A.T. Boat (Current Gen), much like Giddey. Chase greatness and all-new rewards as you set the standard of what’s possible on the court.
\\n
The NBA Playoffs are underway, with a new champion set to be crowned in the coming weeks. We’ve watched the best of the best will their teams to victory in pursuit of the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Can you do the same in NBA 2K23? Draw inspiration from the Playoffs and showcase your clutch gene around The City and The G.O.A.T. Boat to earn XP, level up, and receive some exciting new rewards.\\n\\n
Ready, set, go! Gear up for Season 7 and the launch of LEGO® 2K Drive with the Level 1 LEGO 2K Drive Bundle reward, which consists of two hoodies, three t-shirts, and a basketball. Accelerate through defenders or hit the brakes and pull up for an uncontested jump shot while flaunting your new tee. Season 7 has more rewards down the road, too, such as the Level 30 Affiliation Mascot, Level 37 NASA Race Suit, Level 39 Badge Point, and Level 40 NBA Mascot outfit. Whether you’re racing or rocketing to the rim, you can do it wearing a variety of rewards.\\n\\n
\\nEager to equip the aforementioned outfits in NBA 2K23? Look out for special events taking place in The City during the Conference and NBA Finals, to earn 2XP for all games played while wearing NBA apparel, and you could surge up the rewards ladder. Take advantage of this opportunity to reap the benefits and let everyone know who you’re rooting for as the season comes to an end!
A new Season of NBA 2K23 means more MyTEAM cards to add to the collection. All year, you’ve completed challenges, curated one-of-a-kind lineups, and collected your favorite stars from every era. While Season 6 brought back the return of Hero cards, Season 7 focuses on putting this year’s most powerful cards into your collection.
\\n
\\n
Invincible cards are the epitome of power and invulnerability; adding one to your lineup, let alone three or five, might be too much for any opponent to overcome. Dark Matter cards are special, but Invincible cards make any player virtually unstoppable, with no weaknesses to their game whatsoever. NBA 2K23 featured Tracy McGrady as the first Invincible card to be released, but more are coming in Season 7.
\\n\\n\\n
\\n\\n\\nBegin Season 7 by adding the Level 1 Galaxy Opal Josh Giddey to your collection. The versatile, rangy guard can do it all, including helping you earn XP via agendas. As you climb the seasonal rewards ladder, you’ll also earn five other Galaxy Opal players, with a new 99 overall Dark Matter player as well. Players who successfully reach Level 40 will receive an Invincible Zion Williamson card to sky through the air with. The New Orleans Pelicans star forward is just as much fun to use in MyTEAM as he is to watch in real life, if not more so.
\\n\\n
While Giddey and Zion headline this Season’s Level rewards you can earn new Dark Matter players as mode rewards in the Vault, Triple Threat Online Ball Drops, Clutch Time Wheel, Season Ascension, and the Draft. Dedicated Collectors will be pleased to learn that each NBA franchise’s All-Time players are being added as a new collection this Season. With a total of 450 new cards available in each pack release, 15 players per team, you can claim new Dark Matter rewards and an Invincible player reward as you increase your player card count and rise up the collector levels.
As the Playoffs continue, be sure to keep an eye out for the Playoffs cards featuring new evolutions based on real-life performances. And as always, make sure to follow the official NBA 2K23 MyTEAM Twitter account for the latest news!
\\n\\n
\\nThe WNBA Regular Season is finally underway, and we enter the new year with a fresh batch of questions. Can the Las Vegas Aces repeat as champions with new addition Candace Parker? Is Sabrina Ionescu ready to lead the New York Liberty to its first WNBA Finals victory in franchise history alongside former MVP Breanna Stewart? How much will No. 1 overall pick Aliyah Boston elevate the Indiana Fever? There are plenty of storylines headed into this season, as well as all-new rewards in Season 7 of The W; let’s take a look.

Who will answer the call to greatness and forge their legacy as a timeless hero? Luka Dončić and Sue Bird may be at two different points in their respective careers—the former a young superstar and the latter a WNBA all-time great—but they share a high basketball IQ and rare athletic abilities that come alive in clutch situations.
\\n
Over the course of her 20-year career, Bird produced several unforgettable moments and was a born leader, using her dynamic playmaking to hoist the Seattle Storm to four WNBA championships. While Dončić is just a little more than four seasons into his NBA career, he’s already shown the same rare blend of gifts that Bird demonstrated for two decades. The Dallas Mavericks’ star is unfazed by big moments and runs head first into battle, utilizing his electrifying passing and soul-shattering, game-winning shots to defeat his opposition.
\\nIn Season 6 of NBA 2K23, follow in Bird and Dončić’s footsteps and carry the weight of a franchise on your shoulders. Clash with formidable foes and claim a bevy of new rewards in The City (New Gen) and The G.O.A.T. Boat (Current Gen) en route to historic fame.\\n\\n

Tipping off just before the start of the Playoffs, Season 6 is filled with loads of heroic rewards and apparel to get you ready for the postseason.
Just a few weeks ago, four MyTEAM finalists took home $500,000 from the NBA 2K23 MyTEAM Unlimited Tournaments. Their lineups featured a wide variety of player cards, with 99 Overall Dark Matter players, reward cards, and a Gold Muggsy Bogues. The fierce competition we see each year in our annual showdown didn't disappoint. With the MyTEAM tournaments completed, and the NBA Playoffs on the horizon, it's time for the next era of cards to enter MyTEAM.
HERO CARDS ARE BACK
Heroes have returned in MyTEAM, and the one and only Shaquille O’Neal is here to get you started! As the Level 1 reward, you can redeem your first Hero card by entering the MyTEAM Season Menu during Season 6. This Ruby-rated Shaq holds a unique power: if you can complete his Evolution requirements, this Level 1 card will evolve up to a formidable Pink Diamond-rated beast to lock down the paint for your lineups.
The Level 1 reward card is always a great way to start your seasonal XP journey, and while Shaq may be the first reward, waiting for you at Level 40 is another one of the greatest bigs in NBA history. The back-to-back NBA Champion, 99 Overall, Dark Matter, Hero: Hakeem Olajuwon! Starting Friday, you have six weeks to complete Agendas and earn that all-important XP to give your competition nightmares on the court with ‘The Dream.’
To help you along the way to Level 40, throughout Season 6, two collections will be released with powered-up Heroes ready to grace their presence on the MyTEAM battlegrounds. These collections will feature Hero rewards who tower over their competition as new and long-time community favorite players. Keep an eye out each week as these Heroes are unleashed.\\n
With these Heroes arriving in MyTEAM, Heroes need a little flash to their game, right? Season 6 will also feature the return of the Holographic, Unicorn, and Fire Basketball Cards in NBA 2K23’s MyTEAM! These cards will be earnable by using Hero cards, so look for each to make their own impact as they debut throughout the Season.
SUE BIRD & WNBA COACH CARDS
Straight from one of our featured athletes for Season 6, the legendary Sue Bird is providing her hand-picked starting five to compete against in this Season’s Signature Challenge. Face Steph Curry, Michael Jordan, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Shaquille O’Neal to earn Diamond Shoe Boosts, a Diamond Shoe Colorway, and a Hall of Fame badge for your MyTEAM, which is a quick way to improve any of your player cards.
Bird will be leading her lineup as the head coach, but what about your lineup? To honor the future Hall of Famer, everyone will be able to earn a Ruby Sue Bird Coach Card at Season Level 2 in MyTEAM. Adding her to lead your lineup will provide system proficiency boosts to all of your cards, but there will be a more powerful version of her Coach Card available as well.
Over 25 new Coach Cards featuring WNBA players and legends, including a Pink Diamond version of Sue Bird, are being added to MyTEAM on Friday. Available in packs starting with Season 6, each Coach Card features a system to lead your team, improving your players’ attributes based on their fit and the coaches’ gem color. Build your lineups and compete with these legend and player Coach Cards from the WNBA!

We’ve showcased some of your favorite brands all season long, and we’re proud to highlight another in Season 5. Daily Paper made its NBA 2K debut on February 17, drawing inspiration from its founders’ African heritage to create contemporary fashion. Now, the Amsterdam-based brand has collaborated with Dreamville apparel on a flannel, hoodie, varsity jacket, crewneck sweatshirt, track pants, and a t-shirt all dropping on February 24 with the launch of Season 5. Head over to SWAG’S to cop your ‘fit. Whether you’re in The City or wandering through The G.O.A.T. Boat, you can rep some of the brand’s most stylish looks today.
There’s much to look forward to this Season, so keep your eyes on the horizon for more news and updates over the next six weeks!
In MyTEAM, our featured star graces the top of the Season Rewards with Tyler Herro as the Level 40 player! You may have encountered his Glitched card from earlier in NBA 2K23’s MyTEAM, but this powered-up Dark Matter version, the first 2K23 Level 40 reward to be rated at 99 overall, will not only be able to take MyTEAM’s best on the court, but do it while leading your best lineups from the Point Guard position.
\\n
You need to earn 150,000 XP in MyTEAM to reach Herro at the very top, and to get you started on this journey is the new All-Time leading scorer in the NBA, The King, LeBron James! From his time on the Heat, LeBron filled the stat sheet and his trophy room while in Miami. So, this new Free Agent card for MVP LBJ is the perfect way to start completing Agendas to earn XP, and level up, in Season 5.

’23 NBA: SERIES 2
With everything that goes into each Season in MyTEAM, we are feeling the vibes of Season 5 and are going with a bit of a throwback for how the mode is structured. From new collections, new games and ways to compete, and of course new rewards, MyTEAM remains as dynamic Season-to-Season as ever before.
\\n
Let’s get started with ‘23 NBA: Series 2! This collection is making its debut at the Season launch on Friday. These cards represent the current NBA, with player ratings and the latest movement from that very active trade deadline just a couple of weeks ago. With the superstars of the NBA available in this collection as powerful Galaxy Opals, look to add the current NBA's greatest to your lineups.
\\n
Like previous years in MyTEAM, most of the ‘23 NBA: Series 2 cards will be available through the Pack Market and sellable in the Auction House. Complete each set to earn 30 new Pink Diamond Collection Complete Rewards, each featuring a current player from that franchise. With well over 400 cards being added, the top card collectors in the community can look forward to completing more than 10 new collector levels with two additional Dark Matter reward players becoming available when this new collection is added on Friday.
\\n
NEW DOMINATION TIER
One of the cards from each ‘23 NBA: Series 2 set will be available to earn through the newest Domination tier! Here, your lineup will compete against all 30 of these current NBA teams with their updated Series 2 cards. Defeat each team by the given score differential by playing on the highest difficulty. Doing so will earn you the Domination-exclusive player card in each Series 2 set. This new Domination tier is full of rewards for everyone in the MyTEAM community to improve their collections. Plus, there is no need to unlock the previously released tiers to compete in this new Series 2 Domination tier.
MODE REWARDS RETURN FOR SEASON 5
Along with a new Domination tier, each mode in Season 5 will once again be home to new and amazing reward players. Rated as Galaxy Opals, look to earn mode-exclusive rewards across MyTEAM in Triple Threat, Unlimited, Limited, Clutch Time, and Draft. Plus, new rewards will be added to The Vault, Wheel Spins, and Triple Threat Online Ball Drops, which will be available for the first half of Season 5. Keep an eye out for those refreshing mid-Season. On top of these high-tier player cards returning, new player reward cards will also be available to earn directly in Season Levels and at the top of the Season Ascension board.
\\n
Last Season saw a new change for Limited, as it expanded from weekends into a mode available all week long. This will still be the case for Season 5, with six Championship Rings to seek out every week giving rewards for each event and lineup ruleset. With the theme of a throwback this Season, Limited will also host its first historic era rulesets. While the full-screen effects will not be in play, these multiplayer matchups will use the historic-based rules, presentation, and gameplay as seen in specific Domination and Challenge games, as well as the Jordan Challenge and MyNBA Eras. Look to play physically and adapt in all-new ways this Season in Limited!
\\n
MyTEAM is constantly updated each week with new cards, rewards, and so much more. While the two-week events will return, we are looking forward to having a renewed focus on earning mode rewards, collecting ‘23 NBA: Series 2 players, and adding fresh Agendas, Challenges, and more during the start of Season 5. As always, keep an eye on the latest news from our official Twitter, @NBA2K_MyTEAM, for more details.

This is just a sample of what’s to come in Season 4. Continue reading to learn more about the other new developments on the way!
The holidays have come and gone, but there will still be plenty of fireworks in Season 4 of NBA 2K23. In Season 3, Santa delivered holiday cheer and a plethora of rewards to The City and The G.O.A.T. Boat, but there’s more to be had in the New Year. The snow may have melted and the trees may be bare, but elite competition remains. This Season, continue chasing Legend status and climb the rewards ladder to earn more swag and new content.\\n\\n
There are several ways to travel around The City and The G.O.A.T. Boat, but the Level 40 reward might be our most futuristic and innovative mode of fast travel yet. For players who reach the final tier of the reward ladder, you’ll receive a remote-control drone with warp abilities—yes, you read that right. Using the drone as a vehicle, fly around the environment until you reach a spot you’d like to warp to, and in the blink of an eye you’ll be transported through time and space. \\n\\n
Before you earn the remote-control drone, you’ll earn a bevy of thrilling rewards, such as SciFi Armor, a Pilot Helmet, and a new assortment of animations and banners to add to your collection, plus much more! The sooner you tap in, the sooner you can start climbing the rewards ladder and earning new gear.\\n
In MyTEAM, Galaxy Opal Zach LaVine lands as the Level 40 reward for Season 4. To reach him, complete Agendas and earn XP in MyTEAM’s modes to climb your way towards this high-flying and dominant back-to-back All-Star. Getting you started on your Season path to Level 40 is the other half of the current Bulls’ star tandem, DeMar DeRozan. Pick up this All-Star swing as a 95 overall Free Agent card by entering the Season menu in MyTEAM to redeem this Level 1 reward.
\\n
\\nZach LaVine also brings a new Signature Challenge along with him to MyTEAM. Take on Zach and his hand-picked all-time Bulls with Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Scottie Pippen, and NBA 2K23 Cover Athlete Michael Jordan! The rewards for beating this squad will improve any lineup with a Hall of Fame Badge, Diamond Shoe Colorway, and Shoe Boosts to improve your favorite player card in the MT Shoe Lab.
It is still a festive time of year with Lunar New Year on the horizon, and MyTEAM will celebrate with the first of three 2-week events during Season 4. Each event combines Agendas, Challenges, and Locker Codes for a Galaxy Opal player card by completing its collection. Get ready for this new way to takeover in MyTEAM!
To complete this Lunar New Year Event collection to start Season 4, earn 10 Takeover players dropping each weekday between the start of Season 4 on 1/13 and the end of the Lunar New Year event on 1/26. From Agenda Groups, Skill Challenges, and Locker Codes, each player will have their own unique way to be added to your collection.
To get us started, the first Takeover Pink Diamond of the Season will be Suns All-Star and NBA Champion, Shawn Marion! You will still be able to earn Marion’s card after wins in most of MyTEAM’s modes, but also from an Agenda Group, bringing new and different requirements than previous Friday Takeover cards.
To complete the collection, you will also need to earn five Event Cards showcasing your skills in the different ways to play MyTEAM. Whether you choose to beat the competition in full lineup games in Domination or Unlimited, or compete in single player or multiplayer Triple Threat and Clutch Time, how you earn four of these Event Cards will be up to you and how you like to compete in MyTEAM.
The fifth Event Card will come from completing a new Spotlight Challenge group based around the players released in the Lunar New Year base set, which will be available in the Pack Market during this event. All 30 of the players in this set were born in previous Years of the Rabbit, so keep an eye out for who can help you complete this Spotlight Challenge set.
Earn all 10 Takeover player cards and the 5 Event Cards to complete the event collection for Galaxy Opal Yi Jianlian! This 7-footer has appeared in the favorite lists of MyTEAM cards every year, and now you can add him to your collection during this event.
\\n
On top of the Lunar New Year event tipping off Season 4, there is a special international matchup taking place in the NBA next week. Zach LaVine and the Bulls are traveling to Paris to face France’s own Killian Hayes and the Detroit Pistons.
Use your favorite MyTEAM lineup to take on the Bulls and the Pistons to earn a new Amethyst Killian Hayes Moments Card. When the game takes place on 1/19, If Hayes is able to score 10 points in the game*, his Amethyst card will receive an evolution to Diamond.
Plus, there will be a locker code released for a France Prize Basketball card. Use this basketball in the challenges and crack it open for rewards including Tokens, MyTEAM Points, or French NBA player cards. The challenge and locker code will go live Tuesday, 1/17, and will be available until 1/31. Keep an eye out in-game and on the official MyTEAM Twitter account @NBA2K_MyTEAM for more information.
Last season, the first community members were able to fully complete their Trophy Case. Congratulations to them and everyone currently running with the first Dark Matter player cards in MyTEAM! In Season 4, all of the Event Cards that make up the Trophy Case will be available to be completed directly from Agendas. Seek out the cards you need to fill in the gaps in your Trophy Case, or begin your epic collection on your way to earning thirty Pink Diamond, six Galaxy Opal, and three 99 OVR Dark Matter player cards!
Limited will also have a new change for Season 4. Each week in Limited will still bring new lineup requirements and a Championship Ring to find, but for Season 4, Limited will expand from only being available on the weekend to being active for the entire week. Giving everyone more time to seek out their championship ring and earn more rewards by adapting and competing with that week’s lineup rules.
Finally, Season 4 in MyTEAM will include the final GameDay in the $250K MyTEAM Unlimited Tournaments**. This is everyone’s final chance to qualify and get into the single elimination tournaments on March 4th for PS4 & Xbox One, and March 5th for PS5 & Xbox Series X. GameDay 4 takes place on NBA All-Star Saturday, so get your best lineup into Unlimited and get ready to compete!
*If Killian Hayes does not play in the game, the moment card will still receive a Diamond Evolution if the Pistons win the game.

The Atlanta Hawks’ All-Star guard has been unstoppable at the start of the 2022-23 NBA regular season, averaging a cool 27.7 points per game and 9.4 assists per game. Season 3 of NBA 2K23 is forecasting a flurry of three-pointers, crisp passes, and bone-chilling game-winners, with Young leading the way. The City (New Gen) and The G.O.A.T. Boat (Current Gen) will become your winter wonderland, where you can participate in holiday events and unwrap exciting new rewards. Ice out the competition and freeze opponents in their tracks with your ankle-breaking handles!

For our New Gen players, you’ll have the chance to earn a different Level 40 reward: Core Badge Patterns. Core badges, exclusive to New Gen, are a vital component of the badge game in MyCAREER this year. There are four default core badge slots: Finishing, Shooting, Playmaking, and Defense/Rebounding. Badges in core slots don’t cost any badge points, giving you more freedom to spend those badge points how you choose in other areas. To add a badge to a core slot, you must first equip the badge and complete its core challenge.
Now, you can change the pattern of your core badge slots! Season 3’s Level 40 reward on New Gen unlocks the below featured patterns, with more coming throughout the year.
The rewards don’t stop there in Season 3: this holiday season you can also earn Ski Goggles, Trae Young 2 “Forever Young” Shoes, a Magic Carpet vehicle, and more rewards in the process. Plus, don’t forget to keep on the path for Legend status!
As the temperature falls the heat turns up in MyTEAM! Along with new cards and rewards, Season 3 features mode, and competitive updates as we enter the second half of the $250,000 MyTEAM Unlimited qualification process.
First up, Trae Young will be Season 3’s Level 40 reward in MyTEAM. The first Galaxy Opal Level 40 of 2K23 is ready to expand your best lineup’s range with Trae’s amazing shooting and make clutch plays to get those all-important wins. To get you warmed up, the Level 1 reward is another sharpshooting guard with Free Agent Damian Lillard tipping off your journey with some easy Season XP. Remember, simply entering the Season menu during Season 3 is all you need to do to add Lillard to your collection.
Once you earn Trae at Level 40, the rewards won’t stop for you in Season 3. For the first time in 2K23, Beyond Level 40 returns with more agendas and opportunities to improve your team. There will be a second player available through the Beyond Level 40 agenda groups, but you should focus on earning Trae Young first. Stay tuned for more details on this mystery player.
Before we get into the other rewards available this Season, let’s detail the major visual and functional updates coming to MyTEAM’s Draft mode. First, the Ascension board has been updated with a new aesthetic with a neon-infused look across all three levels. This update is not only going to show up in Draft, but the Ascension picks earned from Season Level Rewards will also have this new look.
In every draft so far, each position pack has allowed you to choose 2 player cards to add to your drafted lineup. These player cards have always varied in gem color, leading many to choose the highest overall players, going for power over fit.
Starting in Season 3, the position packs in Draft have now been updated to contain cards from a single gem color, making your preference the most important factor in selecting players for your lineup. Each card can still be flipped to view attributes and badges before selecting, so choose wisely. To maintain balance across all drafts, each position pack will contain a unique gem color. For example, your small forward pack may be a powerful diamond player in one draft, while in your next draft, that diamond may lead your team from the point.
There is one more major update coming to Draft. For the first time, reward player cards will now be available to select from the position packs in addition to the latest card releases. From the weekly Takeover players to the coveted Trophy Case Pink Diamond reward players, you may find one of these cards in your position packs, and choose to play with them in Draft, starting on Friday. Remember, each Season in MyTEAM brings a new free ticket to start a draft and earn rewards to improve and add to your collection, so be sure to check out the new update!
Getting back to rewards, Season 3 will bring a new update to Domination as all five of the existing 99 Star Domination Rewards will receive Evolution updates! Amethyst Randle, Diamond Richmond, Bibby, & Walton, and Pink Diamond Havlicek will become more powerful through increased attributes and badges by meeting their evolution requirements. Domination is still a great way to get started and improve any MyTEAM collection with a plethora of rewards, including Trophy Case event cards, on your way to earning those 99 Star rewards.
Speaking of Trophy Case, the first Dark Matter players have hit the court in MyTEAM! 99 overall Tim Duncan and Julius Erving are now available to those who have collected the entire Eastern or Western Conference’s Trophy Case. In Season 3, 15 more Centerpieces and other rare Trophy Case event cards will become available, allowing for the most dedicated community members to add Dark Matter Larry Bird to their collection!
Throughout Season 3 and upcoming Seasons, we are looking forward to offering more paths towards completing these collections. So, keep an eye out for new Agenda Groups and limited-time events if you’ve had your eye on a particular Pink Diamond Trophy Case player, or are looking to complete one or more divisions for powerful Galaxy Opal players.
The latest patch for NBA 2K23 includes an update that needs to be highlighted here. In an effort to maintain fair and competitive gameplay, we have removed the ability to use Position Lock in Unlimited multiplayer games due to anti-competitive trends impacting the wider experience of Unlimited players. You will still be able to compete in other multiplayer and single player modes with Position Lock enabled, but going forward you will need to use Team Control while competing in Unlimited. We are constantly receiving feedback from the community so please continue to share your thoughts on MyTEAM in the Seasonal surveys and even in-game through the Ask a Developer button in the Community Hub.
Be sure to follow the latest MyTEAM news and announcements from our official Twitter account, @NBA2K_MyTEAM, and through the official Discord server. MyTEAM always has plenty of events and amazing locker codes during the Winter months, and we want to make sure you don’t miss out!

This season is going to feel like the Wild West, with the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and more hoping to strike gold by lifting the Larry O’Brien Trophy. The Golden State Warriors have a target on their back after staking their claim as the best in the West last season—will anyone stand in their way? Wrangle your squad together and saddle up for the start of the 2022-2023 NBA Regular Season by hopping into NBA 2K23.
In the Wild West, anyone can make a name for themselves; the same goes for The City and the G.O.A.T. Boat. Whether you’re playing on New Gen or Current Gen, MyCAREER offers a wellspring of opportunity, where you can duel players around the world on the court and gain notoriety as an elite hooper. Season 2 is decked out with thematic Wild West courts and artwork, setting the stage for some high-scoring shootouts. Challenge the competition and earn XP to redeem for all-new rewards, including new jumpshot meters and releases, a Skeleton outfit, and a Level 40 Jabbawockeez outfit. It’s time to prepare for the NBA regular season and spooky season in NBA 2K23.
The Wild West sets the scene for Season 2, but you’ll experience your fair share of Halloween delights and frights as well. During the month of October, we’re hosting some spooktacular events to get you in the Halloween spirit. The Long Night returns, casting an evening shadow over The City for 24 hours. Hit the courts under the cover of darkness and light up your defenders with a spell of three pointers. Grab your pillow case and sport your best outfit for a night of Trick or Treating, and visit select locations for festive rewards.
By now, it’s no secret that award-winning artist J. Cole is in 2K23, and will grace the cover of NBA 2K23: DREAMER Edition, but we have some more details we’re thrilled to share. Season 2 will add more apparel brands to the collection, most notably J. Cole’s Dreamville label brand. Dreamville apparel, ranging from hoodies, t-shirts, and pants, will be available at SWAG’s and pop-up stores around The City and the G.O.A.T. Boat later in Season 2. The rapper and avid hooper has left his imprint on 2K23’s story, its cover, and hand-selected soundtrack. J. Cole carefully curated a list of 20 tracks for you to hoop to all Season, which you can learn more about further down.
The NBA Season has begun and MyTEAM is ready to take the floor in Season 2. New rewards, events, moments, and the very first Dark Matter cards will make their way into MyTEAM this Season. Let’s get into all the details.
Season 2’s Level 40 reward is our featured player, Devin Booker! The Suns’ guard and NBA 2K23 cover athlete will be available as a Pink Diamond for those who earn the XP to reach Level 40 within the next six weeks. Those who have experienced his Sapphire pre-order or his Ruby Series 1 card know the potential Booker player cards have on the MyTEAM courts, and this Level 40 reward showcases his shooting, scoring, and all-around playmaking to lead your best lineup!
Begin your journey with the Level 1 reward, Free Agent Nikola Jokic! Fresh off his back-to-back MVP seasons, this Free Agent lets everyone experience the greatness that is Jokic in MyTEAM, to start earning XP. You can also look forward to adding Emerald Tre Jones, Sapphire Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Ruby Mychal Thompson while making your way to Level 40. Each of these rewards have exclusive Agendas for you to earn more XP, as well as new Spotlight Challenges to improve your MyTEAM.
At Level 32, everyone can earn a non-auctionable version of the Amethyst Zion Williamson card from Season 1’s Intensity release! Seeing Zion back on the court inspired us to not only add his Amethyst to Season 2’s level rewards, but this card will also have a new Dynamic Duo with Season Reward Emerald Tre Jones. This earnable Duo from Tre & Zion’s college days will bring back memories from 2019 and elevate them both with boosted attributes, badges, and overall ratings!
Getting back to the modern NBA, let’s talk about Moments. With ’23 NBA: Series 1 cards which represent the current rosters available in the Token Market, it will be easier than ever before to add the players needed to complete Moment agendas for rewards, XP, and special Moment Reward Players! Keep an eye out in-game as Moment Agendas and their rewards are added after big performances in the real NBA, and of course check our official Twitter account @NBA2K_MyTEAM for the latest drops.
For a more consistent release of Moment content, each week will bring a new Moments Rewind group to the Skill Challenges section. These Challenges will task you with completing lineup requirements and besting win conditions, with some Skill Challenge games ending as soon as you complete those win conditions. Look for this group each Wednesday for new rewards to improve your MyTEAM, and to fill out your Trophy Case collections.
How many collections have you completed in the Trophy Case? With 15 earned event cards for each NBA franchise, celebrating various moments and achievements for each team, each of these collections have a completion reward of a powerful Pink Diamond player. In Season 1, you were able to complete 5 collections total, which if they were from the same division, also provided the first Galaxy Opal player cards in NBA 2K23’s MyTEAM!
In Season 2, everyone is going to have more options to complete their Trophy Case collections. In fact, over 10 more “Centerpiece” exchange cards will be made available for you to take to The Exchange to select which team’s rare card you want to add to your Trophy Case. Yes, this means that by the end of Season 2, some truly elite members of the MyTEAM community will be playing with 99 overall Dark Matter Julius Erving or Tim Duncan! To get these cards, they will need to complete the 15 Trophy Case collections for the Eastern or Western Conference.
While the prospect of running into a Dark Matter online in MyTEAM is rightfully intimidating, know that adding all of these extra Centerpiece cards to MyTEAM will give everyone even more opportunities to complete the Trophy Case collections. Look for these additions throughout MyTEAM, including earning Centerpiece and other Trophy Case cards with your friends in Triple Threat Online: Co-Op!
To start Season 2, you can look forward to revamped themes for our Season cards. Season 2 Select cards will return, but rather than repeating Vol. 1, Vol. 2, & Vol. 3, each bi-weekly drop of player cards will be uniquely themed, and we’re getting started with some Halloween-themed cards. Remember, these cards will leave the market in two weeks on November 4th, and all of these collections will once again have completion rewards for new reward players.
One more thing, if you are holding onto any Prize Balls in your collection, be sure to use them and get them cracked open for their hidden rewards. When Halloween comes around, you’ll want to have your basketball card slot open and ready.
The Las Vegas Aces were recently crowned as the victors of the 2022 WNBA Finals, but just because the WNBA season is over doesn’t mean elite competition in The W lets up.
This year, we’re rolling out 60 WNBA player jerseys in MyCAREER, and the Season 2 group features a pair of Aces stars. Headlined by championship duo Chelsea Gray and A’ja Wilson, we’re releasing their jerseys in addition to Minnesota Lynx franchise players Sylvia Fowles and Ariel Powers, and Connecticut Sun standouts Jonquel Jones and Alyssa Thomas. Whether you’re on New Gen or Current Gen, you can flaunt WNBA Jerseys around The City or aboard The G.O.A.T. Boat.
2K23 introduced a new format for challenges within The W, allowing you and fellow members in the community to work toward a common goal for six weeks. Season 2 continues that trend, but we’re hitting the refresh button, giving you all-new challenges to complete and rewards to earn. Claim four tiers of rewards by competing online and earning XP.
Here are some of the standout Community rewards in The W for Season 2:
Check out some of the weekly W Online rewards, too:
NBA 2K23 is keeping the intensity of the WNBA season alive with WNBA jerseys and plenty of rewards. Lace up your shoes and work alongside your fellow hoopers to complete Season 2’s challenges and earn more swag!
*The W Online mode and related content are available on New Gen only.
In addition to the Dreamville apparel you’ll find in MyCAREER, we're introducing our first playlist from DREAMER cover star J.Cole, featuring 20 songs handpicked by the legend himself.
Here is J. Cole’s curated list:
Additionally, Season 2 will feature the exclusive debut of new songs by Dave East, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and Connie Diiamond feat. Dame D.O.L.L.A. in-game ahead of their release on streaming platforms, as well as our first beat entry into the NBA 2K producer series by Grammy Award-winning producer, BoogzDaBeast.
For the next six weeks, roam The City and the G.O.A.T. Boat in search of fierce competition and all-new rewards. Let J. Cole’s tracklist be the soundtrack to your heroic tale, and rep his Dreamville brand with style. Don’t forget to participate in our Halloween events, where you can earn rewards by Trick-or-Treating. With the 2022-2023 NBA regular season underway, October is sure to be an eventful month. We can’t wait to see you blaze a trail in Season 2 of NBA 2K23.

For the past month, we’ve been teasing the bevy of features and gameplay enhancements coming in the latest iteration of the NBA 2K franchise. Players who purchase the Championship Edition* of NBA 2K23 will receive 10 percent more XP in the City, on the G.O.A.T. Boat, and in MyTEAM, so start your charge to Level 40 when NBA 2K23 launches!
Every six weeks marks the start of a new Season in NBA 2K23. Each Season uses a tier system that you’ll climb by earning XP through Quests. Leveling up earns you new rewards, and reaching Level 40 earns you a special vehicle. Whether you’re a New Gen or Current Gen player, there’s a wealth of rewards and content awaiting you in the City (PlayStation®5, Xbox Series S|X) and aboard the G.O.A.T. Boat (PlayStation®4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC) respectively. You’ve waited long enough, it’s time to share what you can expect during the first Season of NBA 2K23.
*Championship Edition (Digital) only available for pre-order. The Championship Edition (Physical) will be available in select regions and select retailers while stocks last. Pre-order to guarantee a copy. Not available on Nintendo Switch.
NBA 2K23 builds on the franchise’s evolving gameplay and unmatched authenticity by creating a real-life simulation in MyCAREER. Upon setting foot in the City and aboard the G.O.A.T. Boat, you’ll immediately notice a stunning environment, unlike anything you’ve seen before. From new activities and buildings to realistic visuals, the reimagined MyCAREER universe is waiting to be explored.
\\n
From your first steps in the City, you’ll immediately feel a closer connection with your surroundings. NBA 2K23 implements a subway system to take you from Point A to Point B, making every point of interest within reach and travel around the City more streamlined than before. You’ll also experience redesigned Affiliation zones that feel like totally separate worlds.
This Season, climbing your way from Level 1 to Level 40 earns you a four-seater Golf Cart. You don’t need a tee time to enjoy speeding through the City with friends! Before you can earn the Golf Cart, work on claiming other rewards, such as Skill Boosts, Emote Packs, Banners, and more. All rewards are earned by garnering XP that you’ll gain from playing and winning games, in addition to completing Quests.
Welcome to the G.O.A.T. Boat, a luxury vessel that’s been optimized with wider lanes, Elevators for fast travel, and “Showers” to quickly change servers. The Elevators are an efficient way to teleport to key points of interest, and can be used for off-shore events too. In addition, we’re incorporating Squad Travel, so you and your crew can avoid disbanding. Using an all-new blueprint, we recommend interacting with NPCs and Quests around the ship to learn the G.O.A.T. Boat’s layout.
We’ve made a handful of improvements to the Quest system this year to enhance the RPG experience. NPCs will offer a more varied set of Quests, have all-new dialogue, and a higher degree of authenticity. You'll need to interact with NPCs to receive Quests, gone are the days of them being automatically assigned in the Quest Journal. Also, NPC AI Rival Quests are an entirely new type of Quest, which pits you against NPCs with an established storyline. The Rival Quests will ultimately lead to a 1v1 matchup with key NPCs you’ve encountered throughout the game.
The end goal remains the same, but there’s a multitude of ways you can reach the finish line. If you manage to reach Level 40 on the G.O.A.T. Boat, you’ll be able to fly through its corridors on the back of a Hoverbike. Interact with NPCs and see where the road leads you.
New cards and game modes, better accessibility, more customization, and endless lineup combinations await in this year’s MyTEAM. The iconic mode leveled up in 2K23 by eliminating contracts, adding Triple Threat Online: Co-Op, updating all the features you’ve come to know and love, and even more! The MyTEAM Courtside Report detailed the changes and enhancements at great length, but we’re excited to share more about what to expect in Season 1 below.
Triple Threat Online: Co-Op* will debut in NBA 2K23, allowing players to link with friends on the same platform for Co-Op 3v3 online games across different variations. This is a first for the NBA 2K franchise, and an addition the community has been clamoring about for quite some time. This mode comes with a few options: Party mode, Co-Op mode, and Competitive mode.
Party mode allows you to play your way, whether that’s 1-on-3, 2-on-2, or so on, you can play any configuration you choose for bragging rights with your friends. Co-Op lets you team up with one to two friends and compete against AI opponents. Get wins to help you climb the MyTEAM reward ladder and obtain Seasonal prizes that will fill out your Trophy Case collections, improve your player cards with Diamond Shoe Colorways, and an exclusive Hall of Fame Option Pack for getting 250 wins in Season 1. Lastly, Competitive mode pits you and one or two friends against other players. After each win, you and your teammates could earn a rare reward together including packs and the weekly Takeover reward players!
Overall, the mode supports two to six players in player-locked gameplay. Find success on the hardwood and accumulate rewards in the process. You’ll see content refreshes throughout the year with each Season.
*Triple Threat Online: Co-Op not available on Nintendo Switch
The MyTEAM card library is more robust and varied than any NBA 2K game to date. With Michael Jordan on the cover, his iconic Chicago Bulls teammates tip-off the first Season of NBA 2K23 as reward cards en route to Level 40 Pink Diamond Scottie Pippen. During the first six weeks of 2K23, you’ll have the opportunity to add fellow Bulls Steve Kerr, Toni Kukoč, Horace Grant, and more to your collection. Plus, begin the year with former two-time MVP and 2021 Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo as the Level 1 reward, simply for starting your MyTEAM journey.
To keep MyTEAM fresh, we’re adding a revolving base set of new cards in every pack. Every two weeks, we’ll introduce a new Volume of cards, with special “Select” versions included as well. Season 1 features eight collections with Amethyst and Diamond Collection Complete reward cards with every drop! At launch, collect the two 15-card collections from Vol. 1 for Amethyst collection reward cards, Kevin Love & Chris Mullin. Plus, 10 of the 15 “Select” players will be available, which will see its collection completed with the release of Vol. 2 on September 23.
You can also look to earn Takeover Diamond Lamar Odom, which will be available in many different ways: both Triple Threat and Unlimited Vaults, Triple Threat Online, Triple Threat Online: Co-Op Competitive, the Clutch Time Wheel Spins, the grand prize in Draft’s Ascension boards, and the Wheel for logging in all seven days in a week. Available for one week each, we’ll feature new Takeover reward players every Tuesday and Friday.
Lastly, the collector rewards are back and with over 75 reward levels. The way it works is simple: collecting player cards helps you climb the ladder to unlock rewards. By accumulating more player cards, you’ll rise the collector ranks and be gifted with exclusive jerseys, courts, and more. To get started, collect 30 total player cards to add the Big Diesel, Sapphire Shaquille O’Neal to your collection.
We know you’re excited about the addition of Triple Threat Online: Co-Op, but there’s a multitude of reasons to be ecstatic about Domination this year, too. For starters, the classic 5v5 mode will start the 2023 campaign with five sets of 33 games, ranging across the Current NBA landscape, the Golden era of basketball, Modern Age, Champions, and All-Time teams for each franchise. As your reward for finishing each Domination tier, you’ll receive Amethyst Julius Randle, Diamond Mike Bibby, Diamond Bill Walton, Diamond Mitch Richmond, and Pink Diamond John Havlicek! Accumulating all 99 stars will earn you each of the aforementioned ballers, but there’s a new way to earn stars this year. Earning full marks requires you to defeat your opponent by a set amount of points. Winning isn’t enough, you need to do it in a way that leaves no doubt.
Your path to the first Galaxy Opal and Dark Matter players is waiting for you with the Trophy Case. Every NBA franchise has their own accomplishments represented with 15 Event Cards. The rarest for each team is their Centerpiece Trophy, displayed in the middle of each collection. To earn this card in Season 1, you must reach 250 wins in Triple Threat, get the 100 win rewards in Clutch Time or Clutch Time Online, net 100 wins in Triple Threat Online, or complete the first Prestige’s Dark Matter tier in Unlimited. These feats will give you a card to unlock a Centerpiece Trophy Option Pack from The Exchange; where you will choose which Centerpiece Trophy card you want.
These Trophy Case collections amount to a powerful Pink Diamond reward player, one for every NBA team. Collecting a full division’s worth of these Pink Diamond players will reward you with the first Galaxy Opal players in MyTEAM. In future Seasons, collecting the 3 Galaxy Opal players from a conference will reward a Dark Matter player, and the two Dark Matter players will reward a final reward, Dark Matter Larry Bird.
So in Season 1, seek out reward packs that will grant Trophy Case cards. Complete your ‘23 NBA:Series 1 collections with tokens and earn the 3 Star rewards in the Current Domination tier to earn more Trophy Case cards. Plus, be on the lookout for new Agenda Group rewards all Season for other rare Trophy Case reward packs and Option Packs.

NBA 2K23 is the year of Michael Jordan and we’re proud to feature him on the cover of the Championship Edition, Michael Jordan Edition, in the Jordan Challenge, and with our MyTEAM Signature Challenge. The Signature Challenge returns from NBA 2K22, but centers around the former Chicago Bull in Season 1. Go toe-to-toe against Jordan, Magic Johnson, Scottie Pippen, James Worthy, and Hakeem Olajuwon for a Diamond Jordan Shoe Colorway, shoe boosts, and a Hall of Fame Badge.
Eras have a great deal of influence in NBA 2K23; whether it’s the gameplay, commentary, or visuals, you’ll feel as if you were there to see Jordan play live. Certain Challenges will use the era-specific presentation and rules to recreate the physicality of that era. For the PlayStation®5 community, you’ll have exclusive access to Activity Challenges, which you can learn more about, here.
Season 1 is just the beginning for NBA 2K23’s MyTEAM. With new modes to experience, rewards to earn, and cards to fill your collection, it’s time to begin your journey to create your own dream team.
MyTEAM and The W are partnering to grant you exclusive WNBA rewards in MyTEAM. From logos to uniforms and player coaches, take advantage of this first-ever collaboration to distinguish your collection from fellow players. MyTEAM isn’t the only mode experiencing a crossover event, though, as 60 WNBA player jerseys are coming to MyCAREER this year. Season 1 is headlined by two members of the Seattle Storm, Phoenix Mercury, and Chicago Sky.
As far as rewards within The W Online go, we’ve implemented community goals for you and your fellow 2K players to chase throughout each Season. Don’t worry, there will be individual goals for you to accomplish, but we’ve reserved special community rewards for members that invest a lot of time and energy into reaching Game Changer status. Game Changers can motivate the community and can unlock exclusive rewards.
Here’s a glimpse at some of the rewards dropping in Season 1:
Work with the rest of the community, or individually, to complete challenges and earn rewards in Season 1.
*The W Online mode and related content are available on New Gen only.
2K Beats is jam-packed with global superstars and up-and-coming artists. Bolstered by Drake, Megan Thee Stallion, IDK, Cordae, Doja Cat, and more, this carefully curated tracklist will continue to evolve and grow throughout the year, but take your first look at the artists featured at launch.
You can expect new artists and songs every Friday throughout the year, including integrations from some of the biggest labels in the industry.
Perfection is unattainable, but Michael Jordan came close. What His Airness accomplished defied expectations and the laws of physics. In Season 1 of 2K23, we hope he inspires you to sprint toward greatness, and continue reaching beyond your limits. When you’re ready, challenge Jordan and Co. in MyTEAM, dominate the competition in MyCAREER, and bask in the limelight with an armful of rewards. I’m Erick Boenisch, Executive Producer and VP, NBA Development here at Visual Concepts. Can you believe how close we are to the launch of NBA 2K23? I couldn’t be more excited for all of you to finally get your hands on the incredible work the team here at Visual Concepts has put into our MyCAREER and City experiences! We’ve already unleashed a tremendous amount of information on upgrades to NBA 2K23. If you’d like to learn more about what else we have in store for you this year, check out our other Courtside Reports!
The City, born in NBA 2K21 and only available in NBA 2K23 for New Gen consoles, set out to bring together a larger community and to surface competition amongst groups in ways we had yet to truly achieve. NBA 2K22 saw a number of improvements, specifically with the seamless integration of MyCAREER mode. NBA 2K23 takes the City in a very new direction based entirely on the feedback from you, our community!
One of the main pieces of feedback we heard from 2K22’s City was the long traversal times when you had to run or skateboard incredibly long distances to make progress in your career or to venture between each of the affiliation court areas. We chose to tackle this community feedback in two complementary ways that I know you will appreciate:
Feedback from our community is the single most important way we can work together to grow the game into what we all want it to be. It’s important to me that everyone knows that we both hear and actively seek feedback to improve the NBA 2K experience. And speaking of improving the NBA 2K experience, let’s dive into what makes NBA 2K23’s City the best iteration yet, by far!
I’m sure you’re already looking at the screenshots below, and I don’t blame you. In NBA 2K23, we retired the nooks in the corners of the City that represented an affiliation’s ‘home base’. The non-descript areas served us well in NBA 2K22 with unique urban designs that integrated seamlessly into the landscape of The City. This year, though, we have created thematic destinations that really touch upon the true essence of what those communities represent. Let’s speak no more and dive right in to where you’ll be spending your time playing this year:
South City Vipers
Taking inspiration from a sprawling jungle setting, the new Vipers affiliation area transports your senses to another world. It’s impossible to miss the centerpiece of the area, a giant temple flanked by two towering Viper statues, each with water streaming out of their mouths and crashing into the pools below. As you move around, you’ll hear the sounds of the jungle, the birds in the trees, and encounter numerous other locations, including bonfires, a village with huts (one of which is where you can equip your MyPLAYER with Vipers gear), a crashed plane that is now becoming one with the environment, and ponds that dot the terrain and surround the court areas.
North Side Knights
Prepare to be whisked away back to the Middle Ages as you trudge up the dirt path and cross the draw bridge into the new home for the North Side Knights in NBA 2K23. This year, the Knights will be playing in a castle setting complete with everything you would expect in such an environment. The baskets and stanchions are elaborately designed wooden structures, coats of arms surround the castle, and wall-mounted torches will guide your way at night in concert with the warm glow of the lights placed around the courts. One of my personal favorite times of day in the castle is around 6PM (in-game time) when the setting sun crests over the looming castle turrets and it casts a golden glow across the entirety of the playing area. The technology behind our visual improvements in the City this year are astounding, and this is one way you can really see that progress.
Western Wildcats
Taking the pathway from the City proper and entering the all-new Wildcats borough is such a contrast as the landscape quickly changes. Set inside a scenic canyon vista, you will instantly get vibes of being in a semi-desert landscape under the blazing hot sun. Defined by its sparse landscape, the Wildcats borough is anchored by a giant pillar right in the middle of the canyon. Surrounding the pillar are plateaus featuring a number of playable courts and any plant life that can survive in this climate, primarily low-lying bushes and succulents. The courts themselves feature rudimentary baskets to fit the environment; cylindrical posts dug into the ground with aging wooden backboards with chain nets mounted to them. Make your way to the highest plateau in the borough and turn around to be treated to one of my favorite views in the City. Creeping up over the steep canyon walls, you will see the tops of the tallest buildings the City has to offer, including the all-new Pink Diamond Plaza (which looks even better at night!). It really helps to understand the scope of the City and the work the team has done this year to make each and every location feel completely, 100 percent unique!
Beasts of the East
Set inside the caldera of a once dormant volcano, the Beasts will be cranking up the heat in NBA 2K23 in their home grounds. The entrance to the park has hints of being idyllic with its luscious grove of palms and beach-like sand. This environment quickly gives way to the now active portion of the landscape, where you will find molten lava dotted walls, cracks, and fissures. The red glow of the lava is unmistakable, particularly at night when it dominates the color palette of the locale. The baskets on each court have hints of molten in their cores, but are quickly cooling as they enter their igneous state. The incredible level of detail in this borough, in my opinion, really helps to immerse you into this rugged landscape as it perfectly defines the tone for those that hail from the East!
Located in the exact center of the City is our newly created mecca of competition, the Block. Here, you will find all of your favorite ways to play competitively encased in one community-driven initiative. The Block features:
With all of this great content in one central hub, I fully expect this locale will be absolutely hopping 24/7 with people to play with and against. I’m particularly excited with the bringing in of the Kobe and BLM courts to this new area. They have long been under-utilized, and with their flipping to 3v3, I look forward to being able to find a game on either whenever I’m waiting for my 2K friends to jump on!
I really buried the lead on this one above, purposely. The Theater is about to become your new favorite place to play in the City! Replacing the Warehouse buildings that were scattered throughout the City in 2K22, this one central location will serve as a dynamic way to play instant matchmaking games. The Theater building is set up thematically to look like a movie theater from the outside. On the exterior of the building are four giant ‘movie posters’ that detail the four events that are taking place inside the Theater at the current moment. Upon entering the Theater itself, you will find yourself in the lobby where you simply enter whichever theater/auditorium you are ready to play in. It’s quick, it’s easy, and best of all, it’s a seamless way to play 2K basketball!
My favorite aspect of the Theater is its dynamism. Every Friday morning (Pacific Time), the four event playlist will completely swap out to four new events! This means you will be playing a steady stream of new and rotating events all year long, with every week being a different experience for you and your crew! In fact, here is your Week 1 schedule for the Theater that will run from launch day on September 9th until the following Friday, September 16th:
\\n\\n
Week 1:
This kind of a format allows us to create some creative new game types that you haven’t experienced in NBA 2K before. As always, we will be requesting and expecting your feedback all year long on what events you like, dislike, and want to see return in future weeks. I don’t really want to detail everything we have up our sleeves for this year, but here are a few events you will see at some point this year:
These can be configured in different and unique ways. Example, they can be 2v2, 3v3, 5v5, Squads Only, No Squads, Level 40s only, Vipers only, etc. There are actually a LOT of game types and I’m keeping some of my personal favorites under wraps until their week arrives! The flexibility of The Theater is something we’ve never had before and really opens up an experience we can all work on together to bring the community together.
THE ARENA
As you venture out into the City on launch day to explore the sights and sounds of our new urban environment, it will be impossible to miss the Arena. This is a full-scale NBA arena that you will navigate towards to play your NBA games in MyCAREER. As you can see from the above screenshot, there is a sprawling plaza out front that contains people hanging out, meeting up with their friends, conversing, and just waiting to enter the arena to watch YOU put on a show! As you head closer to the front doors, you will see the lines of people heading through security and entering the building. But you, you’re an NBA star in the making! Your Player’s Only entrance is over on the left!
Upon using your Player’s Only entrance, you will find yourself in an all-new area for NBA 2K23 that allows you to prepare for your upcoming NBA game, perform a Russell Westbrook-esque fashion walk in front of the waiting media, complete any quests if applicable, and more. After finished games, you will travel through the underbelly of the arena to meet with the press in the Press Conference Room and more. This dynamic environment seamlessly connects the fabric of The City with your MyCAREER as the arena grounds the entire experience right into the heart of the City. As your star builds in MyCAREER, take a look at the denizens that inhabit the City. Some will be wearing clothing from your arch-rival Shep Owens. Others might be wearing your jersey. One of your many quests in MyCAREER this year will be to win over the city and its inhabitants. With a little sweat, they’ll all be wearing your jersey in no time!
Located in the southeast, not far from the Beasts’ borough, you will find a new studio that has rolled into the City for NBA 2K23…Dreamville Studio. Founded by the Grammy-nominated artist and producer J. Cole, Dreamville Studio is a location your MyPLAYER can eventually gain access to. But only if you prove you have what it takes to meet Cole himself. During your journey, you will meet Dreamville artist Bas, who will help you get your footing so you can get recognized by J. Cole. Cole himself is a tremendous basketball player; befriend him and he can perhaps help you in your quest to win over the City.
The Event Center returns in NBA 2K23 with an all-new design and look that adds a whole new level of flair—fitting for such an important building. This year will feature returning favorite events and, of course, all-new events with some prizes you are absolutely going to want to compete for. As for the building exterior itself, this behemoth of a building condenses to a significantly smaller building when it is inactive. Come event time, the entire City is going to know it’s about to go down. The building goes through an elaborate transformation as it grows and expands to its full size, complete with a full fireworks show to ensure everyone in the City makes their way over. We have some fun content planned for the Event Center this year including events planned in partnership with the 2K League that I think the community will enjoy. We’ll see you there!
Towering over the Block, directly across the street on the north side, you will find the Jordan Challenge building. Featuring a cutting-edge design that glows a signature red come nightfall, the Jordan Challenge building provides you with an easy-access portal to participate in NBA 2K23’s Jordan Challenge game mode. This landmark experience is our love letter to the NBA 2K community; the amount of effort that went into this near-perfect recreation of a bygone era is one that I promise will grab your attention and not release it until you have completed all 15 challenges on offer. If you are able to complete enough of the challenges we present to you during the experience, you will unlock three exclusive items for your MyPLAYER to wear in the City. Unavailable anywhere else in the game, these three apparel items will signify your mastering of Jordan’s career defining moments.
The rewards are:
The race for Legend is back! In NBA 2K22, achieving Legend status required you to reach Level 40 in four different seasons—that’s it. For NBA 2K23, we are mixing up the formula, based solely on the feedback from you, our community. This year, there are four different objectives for you to complete. Achieving those objectives will require an incredible amount of time, patience, and pure skill. For those who show the perseverance required to reach this summit, I can say with confidence that you are going to enjoy the Legend prize this year. I’m not going to give any hints on what it is, but I will say it is part cosmetic and part performance enhancing. In addition to that, the Legend prizes on Current Gen on the G.O.A.T. Boat, and The City on New Gen are both unique, and great. Will anyone in the community manage to get both?!
Debuting in NBA 2K22, Seasons was a huge success for our community. The format was quite simple: Earn rewards for simply playing the game types you were already playing. And the best part, it was completely free! Thinking back to NBA 2K21 (and years prior), Seasons offers so much more value to you, the player. The static model it replaced prized somewhere between nothing and very little—quite the upgrade! With Seasons, we have a fresh set of rewards available to earn every 6 weeks. I’m very pleased to announce that Seasons will be returning to the City in NBA 2K23, and we’ve got a whole host of rewards planned for this coming year to improve upon the experience from last year. Seasons in NBA 2K23 will once again allow players to access new content and earn rewards simply or playing with no additional cost! We will have information on Season 1 coming to you soon, stay tuned!
I couldn’t be more excited with what the team here at Visual Concepts has created for you to experience with MyCAREER and the City in NBA 2K23 for New Gen. The vision of the City was born with NBA 2K21, and it has continued to both evolve and simultaneously come to fruition over the past few years. Where we stand today is thanks to the tireless efforts of the development team here and equally to the non-stop feedback our community provides to us. It is your passion and your fire that drives us to push and continue innovating in this space. I’ve always been a big believer in delivering games that fans are asking for, rather than trying to guess at what they want. Thank you for the assist!
This one is dedicated to every member out there in our NBA 2K community, we’ll see you out there in the City!

BOAT","summary":"The Neighborhood sets sail again in NBA 2K23 on Current Gen, but this time aboard The G.O.A.T. Boat. Equipped with more courts and new quests, this year we’re making a splash.","localeCode":"en-US","content":"All aboard! NBA 2K23 is ready to set sail on Current Gen consoles, and you don’t want to miss your chance to stay on this year’s luxury cruise liner. Last year, NBA 2K22 introduced an all-new Neighborhood, taking place on the Cancha Del Mar. The vessel sailed through uncharted waters, taking you and fellow hoopers on scenic excursions and hosting whale-sized events. The Neighborhood will once again call a luxury liner home in NBA 2K23, but the Cancha Del Mar has been replaced by The G.O.A.T. Boat.
Coming to a dock near you on PlayStation®4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, The G.O.A.T. Boat is about to make its maiden voyage. This year, we’ve made a handful of enhancements to the Neighborhood by increasing the number of total courts, implementing no-wait gameplay options, and more. Below, we’ve detailed these refinements and can’t wait for you to experience them for yourself!
For the next 12 months, players will call The G.O.A.T. Boat home and take part in myriad competitions during that time frame. Life aboard the Cancha Del Mar was buoyant and eventful, but The G.O.A.T. Boat is an entirely new experience, and equipped with a more accessible layout. You’ll notice several differences between the Cancha Del Mar and The G.O.A.T. Boat, such as the deck system and the Promenade, among others. We wanted to ensure the cruise ship is as accommodating as possible during your stay, so this year we prioritized more game modes and courts, broader lanes and hallways for smoother traversal, and a more centralized Promenade to tie everything together. \\n
Check out The G.O.A.T. Boat’s three-deck layout below:
Platinum Deck: Trips
Platinum Deck: Deuces
Platinum Deck: MOAT
Silver Deck: Promenade
Gold Deck
\\n
The Game Room and the Promenade have merged into a single level this year, making it easier than ever to visit SWAG’s and the NBA Store, and more, before heading to The Galleon for some 1v1, or The Bridge for 3v3. In addition, we’ve added “Showers,” which allow you to quickly change servers. Elevators have been updated to include fast travel between key points of interest, and can also be used to access off-shore events.
There’s much to explore this year on The G.O.A.T. Boat. Around the ship, you’ll notice state-of-the-art facilities and a decadent environment, fostering an experience you won’t find elsewhere.
This year features more variety when it comes to matchmaking, as we’ve added no-wait gameplay to complement Got Next spots. Whether you’re itching to suit up with your friends or test your ability to mesh with random players in a pickup game, you have the ability to pair up quicker in NBA 2K23. Together, Got Next spots and no-wait gameplay will diminish wait times and keep you on the court longer.
Similar to The REC, when you go to join a game you’ll be automatically matched up with fellow players, cutting down on wait times. Got Next spots will still be an option for joining games, but now you have options when it comes to matchmaking.
Last year, we took players on exotic excursions around the world, and in the process, we showcased scenic courts and a bounty of rewards. We’re thrilled to announce that we will once again revisit some popular destinations from last year, in addition to taking players to all-new locations in international waters, but we aren’t going to reveal where just yet; however, you can look forward to one new excursion and one new on-deck event each Season.
Throughout the year, The G.O.A.T. Boat will receive cosmetic updates to match the vibe of each Season, keeping things fresh and festive. Courts will feature thematic designs and logos that will be updated for 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5. Keep your eyes on the horizon for more Season 1 news and updates coming soon!
Dominating every game mode and rival player on The G.O.A.T. Boat never gets old, but if you’re looking for more to do, you’ll be happy to hear that Quests are returning in NBA 2K23. On the Cancha Del Mar, players had the opportunity to explore the cruise ship by interacting with NPCs via Quests. This year, you’ll be able to explore The G.O.A.T. Boat in a similar fashion, but with some added tweaks.
To receive Quests in NBA 2K23, you must interact with NPCs. Previously, Quests would appear in your Quest Journal, but this year they won’t automatically be assigned. We’ll also be introducing a new type of Quest, in addition to Daily, Weekly, and Seasonal, called Rival Quests. Compete against the AI within an established storyline, where you go toe-to-toe 1v1. These Quests feature key NPCs you will interact with throughout the course of the game. Experience a more immersive story this year with rival NPCs, a realistic storyline, and authentic dialogue.\\n
This year is filled with larger-than-life events, challenging Quests, and more courts than ever before. We’re so excited to share everything that lies in store, but the wait is almost over, so we won’t spoil the fun. The G.O.A.T. Boat casts off on September 9 on PlayStation®4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Prepare for the upcoming charter season of NBA 2K23 by pre-ordering your copy today!

Devin Booker’s rise from budding talent to blazing sharpshooter over the last few seasons has established him as one of the brightest stars in the league, and more importantly lifted his team into the postseason for back-to-back years. A three-point champion, gold medalist, and three time all-star, Booker is poised to take over as a face of the league. The NBA has only witnessed six players score 70 points or more in a game, and Booker is one of them, joining Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, David Thompson, and David Robinson.
\\r
After being in the NBA for seven years, Book has made an impact not only on but off the court as well. In addition to averaging 23.5 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, and 4.7 assists per game during his career, he is paving the way for the next generation of players by building courts around the country. In 2021, Booker partnered with 2K Foundations to build and renovate basketball courts in Moss Point, Miss., where he honed his skills playing high school basketball. Booker is inspiring people with his silky smooth jumper on the court and with his philanthropic efforts in the community, which is why he’s the perfect choice to be the NBA 2K23 cover athlete.

Our focus for NBA 2K23 was to bring brand new experiences never before seen in MyTEAM, make the entire mode more accessible, and give our community more freedom in how they play. With so much to share, let’s get into it. \\r
Getting started with what is likely the most requested change, ever, in MyTEAM. Yes! Contracts have been removed from MyTEAM! Permanent player cards are now yours to use as you please throughout MyTEAM without needing to fill up their contracts. Nothing has replaced contracts, they are simply gone. \\r
With contracts removed, you will now be able to restart most Single Player games in MyTEAM. Domination, all Challenge games, and even Triple Threat will now have an option to quickly restart the game if things aren’t going your way on the court. \\r
With the goal of allowing our community to play MyTEAM their own way, we are very excited to announce a new first for MyTEAM. Introducing, Triple Threat Online: Co-Op!* For the first time in MyTEAM, you will be able to team up with your friends to play on The Rooftop in Triple Threat games to 21. The beauty of Triple Threat Online: Co-Op isn’t just the gorgeous, redesigned court, but how you can play Co-Op in any configuration you want. \\r
Triple Threat Online: Co-Op supports any combination of two to six players in first-time-ever player locked gameplay in MyTEAM. As you choose which player card you want to use from your active lineup, if one of your friends in the group decides to play for the opposing team, you will automatically enter Party mode. It doesn’t matter if you are playing 1-on-3, 2-on-2, 2-on-3, or a full group of 3-on-3, you can play however you like! The AI will fill out any empty slots with appropriate teammates as you and your friends play against each other. \\r
Now, if you’re feeling a bit more cooperative and are also looking to improve your collection, you can join one or two friends on the same team to play Co-Op mode. Here, you will take on three AI opponents. As you win, you each rise up your individual reward ladders for the Season. This is very similar to what experienced MyTEAM players have seen in Single Player Triple Threat for years. As you win, you earn more and more rewards. \\r
Finally, if you and one or two friends are feeling the need for Multiplayer competition, Competitive mode is here! Not only will each of you progress on your individual Seasonal reward ladders, but after each win, you will have the chance to earn a reward for beating the competition. MyTEAM Points, Tokens, Packs, and special Takeover Reward Players (more on those later) are up for grabs after every Competitive Mode game in Triple Threat Online: Co-Op. \\r
Each Season, the ladder rewards will be refreshed in Co-Op, while the Competitive rewards will see more frequent updates alongside the other modes in MyTEAM. This is brand-new territory for MyTEAM, and we cannot wait to compete against the MyTEAM Community alongside our friends on The Rooftop! \\r
*Triple Threat Online: Co-Op not available on Nintendo Switch\\r
Triple Threat Online: Co-Op isn’t the only mode in MyTEAM to allow for position lock gameplay. For NBA 2K23’s MyTEAM, we are making this change available for all MyTEAM modes! Whether you are used to a specific position in MyCAREER, or want to better manage a specific player’s stamina on your way to completing an Agenda requirement, you can now control a single position for an entire MyTEAM game. \\r
It's all about playing how you want to play, remember? A massive change like this to a traditionally Team Controlled mode is not something we are taking lightly, especially with a competitive community like MyTEAM’s. We will be monitoring all modes to ensure MyTEAM is a balanced mode for all of our players.\\r
Let’s get into the flagship competitive mode of MyTEAM, Unlimited. In the previous two years of Unlimited you were faced with records that needed to be met to rise up the tiers and earn rewards. For 2K23, we are moving Unlimited to a model where every game played progresses you closer to ranking up. \\r
Season Points are how we are accomplishing this change. After each game, win or lose, you will earn Season Points. Earn enough to rank up to the next tier, and you will get that tier’s reward. After you complete the Dark Matter tier, you aren’t done for the Season. We are introducing Prestige tiers after you complete your journey to the top, for even more rewards. On top of rewards at each tier, there is a new Vault that can open after every win. \\r
Leaderboards are also back for Unlimited! Compare your stats against friends and the best players in the MyTEAM community for the coveted slots at the top of the leaderboard. Getting into the Top 10 has an extra perk as well. These exclusive few will receive a special icon displayed next to their name to showcase in MyTEAM’s multiplayer modes. For those outside of the Top 10, you can also earn a special icon for completing all possible tiers and prestiges for the Season. Each Season will reset the leaderboard and progression, giving everyone equal ground to climb to the top. \\r
The integrity of our players is important to us to provide a fair playing ground for every member of the MyTEAM community, especially in our multiplayer modes. From leaderboards ranking our top Unlimited players, to weekend warriors adapting to Limited lineup rulesets, measures will be taken in NBA 2K23 to prevent boosting and uncompetitive behavior. \\r
Once again, half a million dollars will be on the line as the best-of-the-best in the MyTEAM community face off in the two $250,000 MyTEAM Unlimited Tournaments. The pinnacle of competitive NBA 2K returns to both generations, with one tournament for our players on the PlayStation®4 and Xbox One consoles, and a second, concurrent, tournament for players on PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series consoles. \\r
To participate in the tournament, you must reach the Emerald Tier in the new Unlimited before the first GameDay on October 15th. From there, the familiar format returns with a four-hour window to earn as much Game Score as possible without losing a game. After the final GameDay, the community will once again watch as the best MyTEAM players compete in a single elimination tournament in March. \\r
However, this year we are excited to bring our 4 console finalists to an in-person setting to crown our $50,000 Console Champions, and our $200,000 Grand Champions. There are only 4 chances to qualify for the tournament during GameDays, so be sure to make the most of each opportunity to become our next Unlimited Champion! \\r
Let’s change gears a bit to how everyone will begin their NBA 2K23 MyTEAM journey. Each year you need to choose your Starter card to lead your new collection. In NBA 2K23, you will get to play with your Starter Card choices in a Triple Threat game before making your decision. Your choices are three 2022 All-Stars that have the competitive edge to lead any new MyTEAM.\\r
Once again, these All-Stars are Evolution players, allowing you to complete requirements and choose which areas of their game you want to improve. It’s a tough choice every year, but as you increase your Starter card’s overall ratings from Emerald, to Sapphire, and finally to Ruby, you will complete Lifetime Agendas which will give you another Starter card selection.
\\r
For all three Starters, the first Evolution requirement is to score 6 points. To get you right into the action to evolve your starter, after opening your entire Starter kit of players and naming your team, you’ll be dropped onto the new Clutch Time court for a fast-paced game. Try to evolve your Starter, get a pair of assists for a head-start on your Season XP towards Level 40, and start your MyTEAM journey to building your own dream team with a quick W.
\\r
It doesn’t end there though. Beyond these starter games are more Lifetime Agendas to get any new MyTEAM player up and running. Get started by playing 10 games in any MyTEAM mode to earn a 90 OVR Amethyst Fred Jones! The 2004 Slam Dunk Contest winner makes his MyTEAM debut with high-flying slams to be the spark plug of any lineup. \\r
Joining Triple Threat Online: Co-Op, we are also adding a Single Player variant of Clutch Time in NBA 2K23! Take your best starting five and compete against the AI for the first time in 2K22’s hottest mode. Structured in the same way as Clutch Time Online, the goal is to win 10 games in a tier without losing three-in-a-row. Gameplay remains fast-paced, with a single five-minute quarter, a 4-point line, sudden death overtime, and a 14-second shot clock. If you have yet to experience Clutch Time, you have got to check it out in NBA 2K23’s MyTEAM! \\r\\n
Ever wonder how those metal and gem basketballs bounce so well? Each time you finish a game, win or lose, these new Prize Balls will get closer to breaking. After a win, you get a chance to break the ball open to claim the reward hidden inside! Plus, look forward to special events using these basketballs for exclusive rewards throughout the year.

If you have a deep collection in MyTEAM, how are you using the player cards that aren’t in your 13-player lineup? In between Challenge and Limited requirements, why not send your Player Cards out on an Exhibition Mission around the globe? Your players deserve a vacation, so send them to Honolulu, or to Rio de Janeiro, or even to Paris! After their mission time expires, your players will return to you with a special reward from their mission, giving you a new passive way to improve your lineup and collection. Let’s get you thinking about this right now… Which players are you sending to the North Pole in December? \\r
In addition to all the rewards in MyTEAM, there will be a new way to earn a top-tier player from each franchise by completing a team’s Trophy Case. With 15 Event Cards for each NBA franchise, showcasing key moments of their history, you are tasked to complete these collections for the completion reward of a Pink Diamond player for each team! Collecting 5 division Pink Diamond players will earn you a Galaxy Opal, while completing conferences and finally the NBA collections will get you three 99 OVR Dark Matter players! \\r
Earn Trophy Case cards throughout MyTEAM including at the top of each mode’s Seasonal prizing, the first Current Domination tier, and by completing your ’23 NBA: Series 1 player sets. And be on the lookout for the coveted Trophy cards! If you play across all the modes in MyTEAM and pick up these Trophy Case cards, you will be able to earn one of the Galaxy Opal players from completing a division by the end of Season 1! \\r
Let’s get into the changes for the ’23 NBA: Series 1 collection. For the first time in MyTEAM, all current NBA players will launch as rewards in the new Token Market! Here, all current NBA players in Series 1 will be made available for you to select in Option Packs. Earn Tokens and redeem them for your favorite current players immediately! \\r
With all of these changes, the one constant is that MyTEAM will continue to evolve in every Season of NBA 2K23. With MJ gracing the cover, we are launching MyTEAM with a Bulls theme with the great Scottie Pippen as our Level 40 reward. Rated at a Pink Diamond, “Pip” is a juggernaut on the wing on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. With all of the gameplay changes laid out in the previous Courtside Report, you can see how powerful Pink Diamond Pippen will be for anyone earning XP and going after him in Season 1. \\r
You can look forward to more MJ-era Bulls legend reward cards on your way to Level 40, including Kerr, Cartwright, Kukoc, and Horace Grant available by leveling up in MyTEAM. But to get everyone started in Season 1 of MyTEAM, the Level 1 player is a Free Agent card for the two-time MVP, one-time champion and Finals MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo! You’ll have 5 games with Giannis to complete Season Agendas for XP and dominate your competition in any mode. \\r
To keep the flow of new player cards added to MyTEAM as fresh as possible, we are launching NBA 2K23 with a revolving base set of new cards in every pack. Every two weeks a new Volume of cards will be released, alongside special “Select” versions. For Season 1, there will be 8 collections to complete with Amethyst and Diamond rewards for the most common cards pulled from packs. \\r
On top of the premium releases, the Takeover players I alluded to earlier will also cycle through MyTEAM weekly. For the launch of Season 1, Takeover Diamond Lamar Odom will be available in both Vaults, Triple Threat Online, Triple Threat Online: Co-Op Competitive, the Clutch Time Wheel Spins, the grand prize in Draft’s Ascension boards, and for a last chance, the Wheel for logging in all 7 days in a week. And for a direct route, Takeover players will also be available by completing Agendas each week.
Every mode in MyTEAM has received new updates and all of your favorite features from 2K22 remain in the mode. Here are some quick hits to get you ready for September 9th! \\r
The chosen mode of new players and Agenda grinders, Triple Threat offers quick 3-on-3 games to 21 against opponents catered to your own lineup, with chances at opening The Vault after wins. In NBA 2K23, Triple Threat win rewards will now refresh with every Season. Rather than increase the amount of wins needed throughout the year, each Season will now have an exclusive reward ladder to climb. This allows both new and experienced Triple Threat players to get the most out of every new Season in MyTEAM.\\r
We also have a few more changes coming to our Triple Threat modes:\\r
Let’s talk about the cornerstone of MyTEAM, Domination. For NBA 2K23, Domination will launch with five sets of 33 games, spanning the Current NBA, Golden & Modern Age Historic teams, NBA Champions, and finally the All-Time teams for each NBA franchise. Completing the 99 stars for each Domination Tier will get you great player rewards making a 90+ OVR Starting five with Amethyst Julius Randle, Diamond Mitch Richmond, Diamond Mike Bibby, Diamond Bill Walton, and Pink Diamond John Havlicek as the final reward of each tier.\\r
This is the largest group of Domination games to launch a MyTEAM mode and along with all the rewards that come with Domination, there are two new changes coming to the mode as well. First, the eras featured in the Jordan Challenge will be enabled in Domination games! It’s one thing to take on the ’86 Celtics, it’s another when your MyTEAM faces them with classic 1980s presentation and rules! \\r
The other major change for Domination is how you earn Stars. To dominate your opponent and earn those stars, you will now need to defeat your opponent by a set amount of points. No more calculating MyTEAM Point earnings from dunks and post moves, it’s now all about getting the win in the most decisive way possible. \\r
All the Challenge categories from 2K22 will return, and to launch Season 1 our Signature Challenge will be from His Airness himself, Michael Jordan! Defeat MJ and his chosen starting 5 for a Diamond Jordan Shoe Colorway, shoe boosts, and a Hall of Fame badge! \\r
For Challenges with Lineup Requirements, a new lineup helper has been added to help sculpt your active lineup to meet the requirements of your selected challenge. You will now receive feedback if you don’t have enough players of a certain team, or have Gems that are rated too high for the Challenge. \\r
Certain Challenges will be played with era-accurate presentation and rules, similar to Domination, when your opponents are from a retro era. For those playing on PlayStation®5, the exclusive Activity Challenges will include games where you will face-off against Michael Jordan’s greatest teams. In Season 1, face his Rookie Bulls squad in the ‘80s with your fresh lineup for an exclusive Diamond Jordan I colorway card and shoe boosts to fill it out in the MT Shoe Lab.
\\r
MyTEAM: Limited returns with more unique lineup rule sets as you search for each week’s championship ring. To help everyone meet each week’s lineup requirements, the lineup helper mentioned in the Challenges section will also apply while editing your lineup from within the Limited menu. \\r
Another key change for Limited this year is you can now earn every ring prize in a Season. No more waiting until the end of the Season to earn your Seasonal rewards. Play each week to earn that week’s ring, and immediately earn the reward associated with the number of rings you’ve collected that Season. \\r
One more thing for Limited, Eras are also supported in Limited! This will be the only place to compete with the unique historic presentation and rules in multiplayer MyTEAM games. Adding yet another new twist to some of the lineup rules and themes you may encounter this year. \\r
\\r
MyTEAM’s Draft mode is the best way to try out the newest cards released in MyTEAM in multiplayer games for exclusive rewards. New this year, if you run out of Draft Tickets, you will be able to get into the mode with MyTEAM Points. After you draft your lineup, you will now be able to edit your starting lineup to adjust to your playing style, rather than being forced into the best fit to your drafted coach’s system. Adjust your lineup how you please before entering the game, and between games, to make the best use of your drafted lineup.\\r
Each Draft Kit comes with an exclusive Ascension board that includes the weekly Takeover reward player as the grand prize at the top of the tower. And the rewards are available quicker with Ascension picks awarded after each win in Draft, rather than waiting until the end of your run to make your picks. \\r\\r
We are also very excited to be partnering with The W in New Gen with exclusive WNBA rewards available in MyTEAM. Uniforms, logos, and player coaches will be made available in this first-ever inclusion with rewards from The W! Be sure to check out their Courtside Report for more details! \\r
Classic is the mantra for Triple Threat Online, as 2K22’s “The 100” has been removed in favor of the 10-game or 3-loss run format from 2K20 & 2K21. Compete on The Rooftop in both Current Gen and New Gen against the MyTEAM Community for exclusive Ball Drop rewards in these 3v3 games to 21. Triple Threat Online players on New Gen will also receive the previously mentioned update to the On-The-Fly settings in-game. \\r
The expanded collector level rewards return with over 75 reward levels. In NBA 2K23’s MyTEAM, collecting player cards is how you will rise up these collector levels, but there will also be an emphasis on collecting all card types with exclusive rewards for adding jerseys, courts, and more cards to your collection. \\r
When it comes to keeping track of Agendas, one very welcomed change coming to MyTEAM is the addition of the Agenda Tracker in the pause menu. Whenever you are in-game, you will now be able to pause and get a quick glimpse at your progress towards your tracked Agendas. \\r
Another highly requested feature, in NBA 2K23’s MyTEAM you can save frequently changed defensive settings before you hit the virtual hardwood. Head over to the Coaching tab of your lineup to adjust these settings and jump into the action faster! \\r
Card Grading also returns, with a new subtler appearance. Send your player card collection off to get graded for bonus MyTEAM Points in every game they are a part of. Expanding from its debut in 2K22, you will now be able to have your reward cards graded! We are looking forward to seeing some perfect 10 graded Scottie Pippen cards hitting the court. \\r
From new modes to small changes like being able to randomize the order of the poll responses in the Community Hub, a lot of love and care has been put into NBA 2K23’s MyTEAM mode. We here on the Visual Concepts development team cannot wait for you to get your hands on the mode on September 9. And if you are looking for a head-start, remember you can complete a special Spotlight Challenge right now in NBA 2K22 which will give you 23 Tokens, a Diamond Shoe Colorway, and Shoe Boost cards waiting for you when NBA 2K23 launches!

In NBA 2K23, we’ve made some big moves on PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series S|X to help reflect that shine. This year in The W, only available on New Gen consoles, you’re going to deepen your connections with WNBA stars, expand the league, and come together as an online community to accomplish big things! This is going to take creativity, cooperation, and some serious skills. Are you ready to take your game to the next level?\\r
In NBA 2K23, we’re excited to introduce The W Online community progression. Everything about this mode is structured around what we can accomplish together. Every Season will feature six weekly goals the community can work together to reach. If the community is able to reach the collective goal in four out of the six weeks in that Season, every NBA 2K23 player will receive a reward. \\r
We want to reward members of the community for their individual accomplishments, but we wanted to experiment with the mode by providing a common goal for everyone to work toward—after all, basketball is a team sport. Your reward will depend on your contribution level, but when The W Online community wins, everyone wins.\\r
The W is packed with all-new content and epic rewards, including WNBA Jerseys, Logo, and Coach MyTEAM cards. You can flaunt your jerseys, brand new historic gear, and more in both The W and, on New Gen, in The City. All of the rewards will be exclusively found in The W Online. You will not pull a Las Vegas Ace’s Uniform Card from a market pack; you will not find a Candace Parker Rebel jersey elsewhere; despite the variety of clothing options available in The City, the Dawn Staley T-Shirt is a W exclusive. Put in the time online for exclusive rewards that’ll be the envy of the community.\\r
NBA 2K23 features a plethora of noteworthy brands you can add to your wardrobe, including WNBA Jerseys. This year, we’re rolling out 60 WNBA player jerseys spanning multiple Seasons. Coming in Season 1, you can expect Seattle Storm, Phoenix Mercury, and Chicago Sky, featuring two players from each team.\\r
As we mentioned up top, there will be community goals to chase, but there will also be smaller weekly goals for you to reach personally. Those special community members who invest an immense amount of time and effort to achieve the community goal will earn Game Changer status. Game Changers have the ability to imbue other players in The W Online with Player Boosts to help push the community to reach our goals. In subsequent weeks, Game Changers will also be able to unlock new and exclusive rewards to The W Online, including Team Takeover Boosts. Check out each of the Team Takeover Boosts and their perk below:\\r
In the spirit of bringing you closer to the league, NBA 2K23 expands on our contacts feature by introducing Contact Challenges. In previous games you’ve been able to connect with WNBA All-Stars, legends, and coaches to improve badge categories, and we’re happy to take those experiences a step further. \\r\\nAs you progress through the mode and gain contacts, they will issue you challenges. These challenges will have you circling certain games on the calendar, teaming up with new players in Contact Workouts, aiming for season-long stat goals, and stretching your game in new ways. Challenges will get progressively harder and completing them will earn you Player Boosts and Historic Contacts. Contact Challenges are an excellent way to grow your game and brush up on the game’s legends.\\r
For the first time in The W, your MyPLAYER will now have the opportunity to make the All-Star team and participate in the All-Star game. Display your skills in front of adoring fans in a premier showcase of elite basketball talent. Commissioner’s Cup games are another new addition, culminating in the high stakes final Cup game. The mid-season tournament was implemented in the WNBA last year and offers a potential preview at a WNBA Finals matchup down the road. We’re thrilled to highlight two of the WNBA’s most competitive formats in NBA 2K23.\\r
The additions of the All-Star game and the Commissioner’s Cup this year better reflect what the league is, but we didn’t stop there. We also want to give you the opportunity to build the future you want to see. Progressing in The W to the maximum level 10 in League Popularity will unlock 2 Expansion Team slots. From here, you control how the league expands. Pick the city, build the arena, create the logo, design the uniforms. Revive a historic team? Put a team in your City? It’s all up to you.\\r
As you can see, change is the name of the game this year in The W. As the WNBA continues to evolve, we want to evolve with it, continuing to expand The W’s scope. We can’t wait to see how you choose to grow the game and the league. Everyone is capable of being a Game Changer and helping lead the community to new heights in NBA 2K23!\\r

What if the Houston Rockets selected Michael Jordan with the No. 1 overall pick in 1984? In NBA 2K23, explore any ‘what if?’ imaginable and experience different basketball eras.","localeCode":"en-US","content":"We’ve got a bit of a treat for you with this Courtside Report! Today we’re going to break down what’s new in MyNBA for NBA 2K23 on the PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles!
We know MyNBA has a loyal, veteran fanbase and that expectations will always be high—and rightfully so. Our feature set for this year is one we have been talking about, no joke, for well over a decade. We’re here today to confidently say NBA 2K23 is a banner year for our MyNBA fans out there.
Before we fully dive into what’s new for MyNBA this year, we’d like to get philosophical for a moment and look at a very powerful phrase: “What if?” Two short words that lead to limitless possibilities.
Keeping up with the NBA means engaging in a never-ending stream of “what ifs”: what if Kyrie were to go to LA? What if KD actually went back to Golden State? What if Utah trades Donovan Mitchell? We’ve pondered these and countless other “what ifs” in this offseason alone; arguing “what ifs” is one of the things we love about the sport of basketball.
“What if” can do more than stitch together the future; it can also look at the past. The history of the NBA is overflowing with “what ifs” that people continue to talk about to this day. What if the Rockets took Jordan #1 overall in 1984? What if Shaq and Kobe stuck around in Los Angeles? What if the Seattle SuperSonics never moved to Oklahoma City? All these questions will forever remain lingering “what ifs” that will be debated until the end of time; after all, there’s no way to go back and change history.
But what if?
What if you could go back in time and change the very fabric of NBA history? What if you could be the guiding hand that steers the league in the direction you want to see it go? What if you could tackle the “what ifs” you’ve always wanted to explore and go back to a previous era where you can finally see what could’ve been?
With NBA 2K23, there’s no need for “what if” when pondering what could’ve been. All of your dreams can become reality as MyNBA becomes MyNBA Eras on PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
An “Era” is what we call a specific point in time that you can start playing a new MyNBA save. The MyNBA Eras mode is designed to be a time machine straight out of the box; all you need to do is pick your Era and go. If you’re a power user and want to tweak your roster or settings, we’ve still got you covered! We’re confident that you’ll be incredibly pleased with what MyNBA Eras brings to the table this year!
The previous MyNBA experience is now dubbed the “Modern Era”—if you’re a longtime fan of the mode and just want to dive into an Online League and play with your friends, no worries! The franchise goodness that you all know and love is still there, ready and raring to go. Start from the beginning of the regular season, the previous offseason, or Start Today once the season is underway. In NBA 2K23, there are four Eras in total. We’ve already covered the Modern era, so let’s discuss the other three Eras available at starting points.
It’s impossible to talk about basketball in the 1980s without mentioning the rivalry between Magic Johnson’s Showtime Lakers and Larry Bird’s Boston Celtics. Fans of NBA 2K might recall the homage paid to their storied rivalry in NBA 2K12, where Bird and Magic (along with His Airness) graced the cover and were featured heavily in the “NBA’s Greatest” mode. With one look at the record books, it’s easy to see why. The Lakers and Celtics accounted for 65% of the teams in the Finals in the 1980s, and the clashes between Bird and Magic are the stuff of legend.
The ‘80s featured a ton of terrific players throughout the league: Moses Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Isiah Thomas, George Gervin, Alex English, Julius “Dr. J” Erving—the list goes on and on. But with so many iconic teams and players, what would be the best year to start with, to give the richest experience for MyNBA Eras? We have a good spread of years to pick from with the Lakers and Celtics rivalry in full swing, but simply looking at the players it can be a little tough to choose from so many amazing rosters.
However, let’s go back to the realm of “what if.” What would be one of the most fascinating ways to rewrite history? Who would be the most fascinating player to change the course of history? We would want a player coming into the league that would make your MyNBA story unique straight from the first offseason. Let’s hop back to 2K12 for a moment. Along with Magic and Bird, there was a third player present on the cover that would shape the NBA for decades to come: Michael Jordan.
With the Magic Vs. Bird Era in MyNBA Eras, we’re starting in 1983. This gives you a full season to get your affairs in order and prepare for the ensuing 1984 offseason, where you can guide your team to try and draft the likes of Michael, Akeem, or any of the other star-studded members of the 1984 draft class.
MyNBA Eras makes it easy to use your own or a community-created draft class if that’s what you’re into, but we’ll automatically supply our own 2K year-appropriate draft class so you can rewrite history the way you see fit. Did you miss out on Jordan in the ‘84 Draft? No problem, a 7-foot Center out of Georgetown by the name of Patrick Ewing awaits you in the 1985 Draft.
There’s no need to beat around the bush for the next Era. It would be impossible to have the greatest eras in NBA history without one focused on one of the most prolific players to ever palm a basketball: Michael Jordan.
The Jordan Era puts you right at the beginning of Michael’s dominant run with the Chicago Bulls in 1991, and features threats to Air Jordan’s legacy abound—the tail end of Isiah Thomas’ Bad Boys Pistons, Stockton and Malone, Hakeem’s Rockets, and Ewing’s Knicks. Could MJ have gone for more than a double three-peat? There is only one way to find out!
The other big question of The Jordan Era has to do with the upcoming 1992 Draft, with a particular superstar in Shaquille O’Neal up for grabs. One of the greatest centers to ever play the game, O’Neal, a generational powerhouse, will undoubtedly shake up the NBA wherever he lands. Will it be with you?
For our third historic Era, we’ll be going back to the year 2002. The Eastern Conference’s reign of dominance had subsided in the late ‘90s, giving way to a new generation of talent in the West: Tim Duncan and the Spurs, Kevin Garnett and the Timberwolves, and Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks.
Yet, no talk of 2000s basketball can be complete without talking about one name in particular: the Black Mamba himself, Kobe Bryant. Shaq’s impact as one of the most unstoppable players in league history can’t be denied, but after the early 2000s three-peat, Kobe secured two more rings for the Purple and Gold and cemented himself as the successor to Michael Jordan’s throne.
Savvy basketball fans might start to notice a pattern in the Eras—they always feature a fun and interesting roster to start with, and always have some notable players in the upcoming draft to be excited about. With one of the greatest NBA draft classes of all time, you’ll be negotiating hard-to-trade-for-picks to get the draft rights to:
In addition to these players there’s many more. With such a bright future, we’re sure you’re going to love seeing what the NBA can become in The Kobe Era!
This is exciting stuff, right? Each Era starting point allows for a full 80-year franchise. You’ll run all the way up to the present and well, well beyond. We’re absolutely thrilled to make Eras a reality in NBA 2K23. It’s been a “dream feature” for the franchise team for over a decade, because we knew that in order to get it right, we’d need EVERYONE on the entire NBA 2K team to make a heavy contribution. Huge thanks to the audio team, environment team, gameplay team, graphics team, presentation team, and roster team for all they’ve done to make Eras a feature we know you will all love.
To this point, we’ve touched on the format of Eras. Now we’ll move on and give you an even deeper dive into what you can expect from each Era.
One of the first things you’ll notice when jumping into Eras gameplay is that every team has a floor that’s accurate to the Era year. We’ve spent a ton of time going over game footage, trying to make sure we get the details right so that when you play as the San Diego Clippers, it really does feel like a slice of history comes to life.
With a few exceptions, every team has at least one unique floor per Era, with a few teams getting more if they had a big rebranding or relocation; approximately 100(!) new floors in total across all Eras. The long-term goal is to eventually have every floor as close to the year-to-year changes as possible, but for now, we’re confident that you’ll be able to have a great time with all of the versions available in Eras.
One particularly immersive thing you will notice in Eras arenas is that we went to all of our partner sponsors and worked with them to get the ACTUAL logos and brand markings they used in the ‘80s, ‘90s, and 2000s. It sounds small, but it really adds to the authenticity of the experience when you are in the moment!
In the same vein as the arena floors, we worked to get as many uniforms as possible for each of the teams. Thanks to years of effort by the MyTEAM folks, we started with a pretty large library and have done our best to pair them up with each of the teams so you should be seeing uniform changes at least once per Era, if not more frequently. When a team relocates, we make sure we have matching uniforms to fit the new city.
One incredibly satisfying visual addition you will find in MyNBA Eras is something we put on display in last week’s reveal trailer for The Jordan Challenge. Our team here at Visual Concepts went and created an era-specific filter system that was intricately designed to recreate the television experience of watching these games as they were originally broadcast during the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s!
Beyond LOOKING the part, with respect to the quality of the broadcast, the team has also gone back and created era-specific broadcast elements. In 1983, you will experience a broadcast that is simple in design and nature, with big block letters, and a simple scorebug. As we progress into the ‘90s, you will start to see an evolved presentation as technology is improving in leaps and bounds. By the time we get to the 2000s, things start to get a little more current (though, not entirely!). The team has spared no expense in bringing you the ultimate, authentic experience this year with MyNBA Eras in NBA 2K23.
On the commentary end of the spectrum, the audio team really outdid themselves this year. Historically, they’ve kept our commentary booth up-to-date and added new content to our colossal bank of audio lines to keep gameplay as fresh as possible. But with the introduction of Eras, the question became: does it make sense to have the same commentary team for 4 different Eras? The obvious answer is that it doesn’t. To shed the accumulated work of thousands of recording hours would be bold to say the least, but that’s precisely what we’ve done—we’ve started a new bank of audio with a revised booth!
From the years 1983-2002, your commentary booth is going to consist of Kevin Harlan, Clark Kellogg, and new addition Mike Fratello (aka The Czar). Bringing in Fratello provides a huge boost to the presentation of this era of the NBA as he lived through this entire range as both a coach and a sports broadcaster. He brings to the table many stories and insights that only he can convey with such elegance and grace—his voice brings the past alive once again! From the years 2002-2020, Fratello steps aside and makes way for Greg Anthony to provide a more current flavor to the evolving booth. Once 2021 hits, we open up our full multi-team commentary booth with additional sideline reports, guest commentators, the works. For years now, NBA 2K has paved the way for commentary presentation, and NBA 2K23 takes that to the next level this year!
We’ve done our best to make sure that the base MyNBA Eras experience fully supports teams automatically joining the league in the right years (think Miami Heat, Vancouver Grizzlies, etc.) and rebrand/relocate (think Memphis Grizzlies, Oklahoma City Thunder, etc.) as those teams did historically. Other than a few minor exceptions, everything is in, including the San Diego Clippers, the Seattle SuperSonics, and the various history of moves from the Hornets/Bobcats/Pelicans.
That said, we want to make sure that MyNBA Eras remains the sandbox you’ve known and loved for years now. It was a goal to make the rebranding, relocation, and league expansion easy for those that wanted to see history unfold as it did in the past, but also make it easy to change them. If you want to take the league in a completely new direction, you can absolutely make it happen. 36 teams in 1983? Sure. No team relocations allowed, ever? You got it. To do that, we have the new Historical Rule Changes time period that effectively happens during each offseason.
Here, we give you a brief overview of everything that happened, while also giving you the option to disable any individual change if you don’t want to see it occur. It’s a really nice way of taking in what’s different around the league, and which teams and arenas might be worth taking a closer look at for new content in the upcoming season.
In addition, we make sure that most of the normal rule changes that were introduced over the league’s history are present. It’d be impossible to think of Jordan-era gameplay without hand checking, so that’s an option and enables more aggressive defense on the sticks. The league shifting from zone defenses being illegal to legal, the playoff format changes, it’s all here, and it’s all the bread and butter of what makes MyNBA Eras a feature that stands above all other similar modes in the market! If you would like more details on just some of the gameplay changes we’ve added this year, give the ‘Gameplay Authenticity’ section of our Jordan Challenge Courtside Report a read for further details!
It’s impossible to touch on everything that has gone into MyNBA Eras. In addition to the previous points mentioned, we’ve done our best to add several small touches to help make the mode feel like a unique experience:
MyNBA Eras was created by basketball fans, for basketball fans, and we know you’re going to love it!

Recreate his gravity-defying acrobatic shots and experience each moment as if you were there.","localeCode":"en-US","content":"Pioneered in NBA 2K11, The Jordan Challenge was a groundbreaking sports game mode that allowed for NBA fans to relive their favorite and most memorable moments from Michael Jordan’s storied career. It’s been over a decade since then and we felt that now is the perfect time to retell Jordan’s ascension from college standout to NBA legend in NBA 2K23 on both New Gen and Current Gen.
One of the core differences between our audience in 2K11 and 2K23 is that many of our players in the latter never got the experience of watching Michael Jordan play in-person or live on television. Everything they know about the player is from short clips, YouTube videos, and/or tales from family members who saw a man win six NBA Championships in a single decade. In NBA 2K23’s Jordan Challenge, fans from any generation will be able to enjoy the definitive retelling of Michael Jordan’s career through our completely immersive narrative experience.
In NBA 2K23, The Jordan Challenge consists of 15 unique game experiences beginning from Jordan’s humble beginnings at the University of North Carolina and culminating with the final shot he ever took for the Chicago Bulls, one that elevated him to a six-time NBA Champion. The complete presentational package is richer than anything we have ever put together, allowing for each game to look, feel, and sound like it’s being played in the actual year it is taking place in. In this mode, you will experience:
Our ‘kitchen sink’ approach of including EVERYTHING we could think of doesn’t stop with the above. What good is the above if the on-court experience doesn’t live up to how the sport was played during this era? Let’s dig in to those details…
The game of basketball has changed so much over the course of the last 40 years. Enhancing our on-court experience to support the Jordan Challenge was a major priority for the team this year. The Jordan Challenge is not just the same modern-day gameplay with classic teams and uniforms. We scouted, studied, and made key gameplay changes to fit the feel of each era to make each game feel like time traveling through NBA history.
For starters, the game was much slower paced in Jordan’s day. In the ‘80s-era games, you will notice a much heavier focus on the post and mid-range game. This is supported through slider settings, AI, tendencies, and playbooks custom to the era. We also rewrote our transition game for the 1980s. It features tighter transition lanes and more players cutting to the basket with a numbers advantage, as opposed to the spotting up for three you see in today’s NBA.
You can run sets from some of the greatest coaching minds in NBA history: Jack Ramsay, Hubie Brown, Dick Motta, Lenny Wilkens, Phil Jackson, Jerry Sloan, Rick Adelman and more. On the defensive end, we’ve rewritten our matchup logic so that when Jordan plays against Dominique Wilkins, they’ll match up and try to outscore each other in the Shootout challenge. In other games, you’ll see more complex cross matches. When you play as Jordan against the Cavaliers, Winston Bennett guards Jordan, Jordan takes Craig Ehlo, Ehlo guards Scottie Pippen, and Pippen guards Bennett. If you are able to score well at a high enough efficiency, Ehlo will eventually take over defensive responsibilities for Jordan.
Basketball in the 1980s and 1990s was much more physical than present day; this is accurately modeled in our floor game and in the paint. Hand-checking and hard-hitting body-ups bring a completely different feel to the one-on-one battles compared to the more free-flowing game of today. We also made sure that all the rules (like illegal defense) are accurately represented properly for each particular game. Playing with Jordan against the ‘Bad Boy’ Pistons is probably the most obvious example of where you see the grit and physicality of old school basketball. The Pistons will employ their famous ‘Jordan Rules,’ a set of defensive strategies they used to try and contain MJ.
On the signature style front, you’ll see our biggest upgrade yet. Magic Johnson has his signature no-look passes, and a number of classic greats have all-new jump shot, layup, and dunk packages. We also made every effort to ensure that our dribble move set and finishing moves were era-appropriate. This means moves like the “shammgod” crossover and euro-step layups won’t be firing off in Jordan Challenge games. And of course, the Jordan Challenge wouldn’t be complete without capturing some of the big moments that everyone remembers: Jordan’s famous shrug against Portland, the 1997 Finals flu game, The Shot over Ehlo, and Jordan’s famous game-winner over Bryon Russell to seal his final championship. These are just some of the memories that have been accurately recreated in NBA 2K23.
We paid attention to every possible detail creating the Jordan Challenge, and then some. The end result is a breathtaking recreation of a bygone era that we know you will enjoy! Below, you’ll find a detailed glimpse at each challenge and the history behind the moment.
The 1982 National Championship featured future Hall of Famers, legendary matchups, and the first glimpse of Michael Jordan’s clutch gene. Down 62-61 with less than 20 seconds to play, MJ, a first-year Tar Heel, clinched the title with a go-ahead jump shot with 15 seconds left in regulation. Many players, not just freshmen, would’ve folded under the bright lights and intensity of a national championship, but not No. 23. Experience Jordan’s first iconic shot by recreating the magic of the 1982 National Championship.
67,596 fans descended upon the Hoosier Dome in 1984 to witness a clash between NBA giants, as the USA Olympic Team, led by Michael Jordan, went toe-to-toe with Magic Johnson and the NBA All-Stars. In a game featuring NBA legends like Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Isiah Thomas, and more, Jordan proved, as a rookie, he was capable of defeating some of the game’s greatest stars.
In Michael Jordan’s second NBA Playoff series, the then-22-year-old guard showed immense poise against the formidable Boston Celtics. MJ’s Game 2 takeover is the stuff of legend, giving Larry Bird and company the business en route to a 63-point eruption. Jordan was near-unguardable, making acrobatic layups among towering defenders and nailing jump shot after jump shot. Unleash Jordan’s historic offensive onslaught again in NBA 2K23.
Despite playing only 29 minutes, Michael Jordan led all scorers with 40 points with a field goal percentage of .739. Take the court as His Airness against a stacked lineup of Western Conference All-Stars including Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Hakeem Olajuwon, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and more.
Elimination games provide the ultimate test for any competitor looking to establish themselves as a ‘clutch player.’ The Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers sat tied 2-2 entering a win-or-go-home Game 5 in Cleveland, setting the stage for a masterful performance from Jordan. The North Carolina native hung 44 points, nine rebounds, and six assists on the Cavs, giving his team a one-point win to advance. Showcase Jordan’s varied skill set and dash Cleveland’s playoff hopes.
When recollecting many of Jordan’s must-see duels, his battles with Dominique Wilkins can’t go overlooked. Against one of the premier playmakers in Atlanta Hawks history, Jordan averaged 31.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.2 assists in 45 games. On the flip side, Wilkins averaged 29.8 points and 6.8 rebounds versus Michael Jordan in his career. When the duo squared off, it was a heavyweight title match, and you can relive it in the Jordan Challenge.
Some of Jordan’s best games came against the Cavs, but none were more impressive than his 69-point performance. For 50 minutes, Jordan taught a masterclass in scoring, rebounding, and assists, finishing the game with a career-high in points and rebounds with 18. Jordan consistently nailed jump shots, registering 23 field goals, while hitting 21 of his 23 free-throw attempts. Deliver one of the league’s most memorable moments by recreating his historic game.
There was no love lost between the Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons in the early ‘90s, and their rivalry came to a head in Game 3 of the 1989 Eastern Conference Finals. With the ECF series tied 1-1, Jordan lifted his team to victory the best way he knew how by dropping 46 points and adding five steals for good measure. Duke it out in front of a deafening Chicago crowd in an Eastern Conference heavyweight battle.
At last, Jordan hoists his first Larry O’Brien trophy by defeating the Showtime Lakers, led by Magic Johnson. For six years, the highly coveted championship trophy eluded Jordan, despite his best efforts. The then-27-year-old shooting guard proved he could meet the lofty expectations thrust upon him by defeating a team filled with Hall-of-Fame talent. Bask in the limelight as streamers and confetti fall at your feet.
Once Jordan captured his first title, he developed an insatiable hunger for more rings. In his second consecutive trip to the NBA Finals, Jordan set the tone early against the Portland Trailblazers, putting the game out of reach by the end of the first half. MJ led all scorers with 39 points, serving as the primary contributor in the Bulls’ 33-point blowout win.
Former college rivals square off once again, this time at the mecca of basketball, Madison Square Garden. At the height of their power, Jordan and Patrick Ewing gave the fans in attendance their money’s worth, trading buckets and elbows in a physical duel. Ewing’s 36 points would typically be enough to beat a team on any given night, but Jordan’s 55 points proved to be too much to overcome. This game is yet another reminder of Jordan’s greatness, and you can experience it firsthand.
Michael Jordan’s fourth championship title was arguably one of his toughest tests. Facing a Seattle Supersonics squad equipped with lockdown defender Gary Payton, also known as ‘The Glove,’ every possession was a slugfest. Payton tried his best to smother Jordan throughout the series, successfully limiting him to a .263 field goal percentage in Game 6, but the offensive assassin found a way to thwart the Supersonics’ championship plan. Dig deep to clinch the title in a grueling battle against formidable foes.
Flu-ridden and teetering on the edge of collapse, Michael Jordan battled sickness and fatigue for 44 minutes and 17 seconds against the Utah Jazz. The famous ‘Flu Game’ is legendary and widely considered one of Jordan’s finest moments as a basketball player. The Bulls found themselves in a less-than-ideal situation early in Game 5, trailing by 16 at one point. Somehow, Jordan managed to power his team back within striking distance, and eventually secured the win. When the clock struck double zero, Jordan had 38 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. He left everything he had on the court.
Kobe Bryant entered the NBA with a swagger and an air of confidence that resembled shades of Michael Jordan, but whether he was MJ’s heir to the throne remained to be seen. Bryant, who grew up idolizing Jordan, went at his idol all game, determined to prove he was worthy of receiving the torch. The Lower Merion High School product dropped 33 points against MJ and the Bulls, but Jordan’s 36 were a reminder that he still reigned supreme. Teach the up-and-coming Bryant a few things en route to a commanding win.
The Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls decided their 1997 NBA Finals matchup wasn’t enough, so they ran it back in 1998. All but one game in the series was decided by five points or less, making for some dramatic finishes, with Game 6 serving as the climactic crescendo. To the tune of 45 points, Jordan cemented his legacy and secured his sixth championship title by sending Bryon Russell skidding in the lane with a deadly crossover and drilling the go-ahead bucket with five seconds remaining in the game. Recapture the magic of those final moments and celebrate one of Jordan’s greatest feats.
Available on ALL versions of NBA 2K23, we can’t wait for you to get your hands on The Jordan Challenge! This definitive re-telling of Michael Jordan’s career was a passion project for our development team. Flex on the rim, finesse your way to the rack, and experience more authentic animations.","localeCode":"en-US","content":"NBA 2K23 is nearly here and it features gameplay enhancements that elevate the competitive intensity in all facets. The main pillar for us this year can be summed up with one word: Authenticity. The team worked hard to create as much parity as possible in the on-court gameplay between Current and New Gen. Below, we’ve detailed all there is to know about the updates coming in the latest iteration of the NBA 2K franchise.
The defense was a point of emphasis in last year's game, but NBA 2K23 is so jam-packed with new features and upgrades on the offensive end of the floor that it's a perfect starting point. NBA 2K22 was a banner year for perimeter players: small guards had a slew of advantages over their taller counterparts, and outside shooting reigned supreme in online matches. Thinking about how we could bring more authenticity to our game, we looked at how virtual games were playing out compared to the real-life NBA, and it was clear that we needed to give more love to slashers who love to finish at the rim. This meant expanding the tools for attacking the basket.
The most obvious upgrade is the addition of new gesture combos to the Pro Stick. Internally, we refer to the new mechanics as double throws (flicking the Pro Stick in a direction, letting it go back to center, and then quickly moving the Pro Stick back in the same direction) and switchbacks (flicking the Pro Stick in a direction, letting it center, and then quickly moving the Pro Stick in the opposite direction). These new gestures introduce a lot of new weapons for both shooting and ball handling.
For dunking, the metered skill dunks from NBA 2K22 (ability to force difficult dunks in traffic with a timed shot meter) return, but the new commands allow us to expand the dunking controls to let you dunk exactly how you want without accidentally firing off a skill dunk you weren’t expecting. When driving to the basket with the Sprint trigger held, the new Pro Stick control map for dunks is as follows:
You’ll notice with this new map, you now have control over rim hangs. For New Gen, we’ve taken that control to an all-new level with physics-based simulated rim hangs! This is an incredibly entertaining and wonderfully complex piece of tech that’s been in development for a couple of years now. It allows you to control when and how you hang on the rim after a dunk.
The controls are simple. Use one of the new rim-hang dunk gestures mentioned above when driving toward the hoop, but keep the Sprint trigger held when the player gets their hands on the rim. You’ll hang indefinitely as long as you keep the trigger held, and you can use the Left Stick to adjust the momentum of your swinging body and the Right Stick to pull yourself up on the rim. This is all done through a physical simulation, as opposed to canned animations—it looks and feels amazing. It’s one of the most fun things to do in the City (available on New Gen only), but watch out for techs if you hang too long in NBA games.
For slashers who want to finish with a little more finesse, double throw gestures are used for hop-step layups while switchback gestures are used for euro-step and cradle layups, which feels very natural. A simple hold left or right will perform an all-new set of quick scoop layups. These are great, especially for small guards who want to quickly flip the ball up around defenders before they can react and block the shot.
For the bigger/stronger players, you’ll also experience a lot of new contact layup content that properly shows what should happen when players like Giannis Antetokounmpo plow through everyone in their path.
In addition, we’ve added several new layup packages for both New Gen and Current Gen, including Devin Booker, Joel Embiid, Allen Iverson, Magic Johnson, Nikola Jokic, Zach LaVine, Ja Morant, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, and more!
For post players, double throws can be used for post drop steps and hop shots. Switchback gestures will give you shimmy shots and hooks. There are a bunch of new signature post shots and hooks to choose from this year as well.
Dribbling in NBA 2K has taken on a life of its own and has become a sort of game within the game. Ball handlers are going to enjoy ‘combo-ing up’ in NBA 2K23, as the new gesture combos give you even more options for your arsenal. Switchback gestures will now perform dedicated signature double cross and hesi (hesitation) cross combo moves that you can assign as part of the Moving Crossover signature package—which has grown from 15 options to 28. Learning the speed of your stick throws and the timing of your signature animations is especially important now.
You can chain your player’s normal signature size-ups by rocking the Pro Stick back and forth rhythmically. Rapid double throws will give you the aforementioned new combos. And flicking the Pro Stick back and forth repeatedly will give you a whole different set of animations called Signature Combos that look incredible.
Another major dribbling change is the introduction of “attacking size-ups.” One of the things we wanted to improve with dribbling in NBA 2K was that, while the size-up moves looked cool, they weren’t very useful. The new attacking size-ups provide a lot more side-to-side movement and are much better at forcing the defense to drop and shift, allowing you to bait them one way and then attack the other—something all great ball handlers do so well in real life.
While it’s fun to clown your opponents with a flurry of flashy dribbles, we don’t want to encourage players to dribble the entire shot clock out while their teammates fall asleep. Energy will deplete much quicker when spamming too many moves together, so it’s important to be efficient and not “play with your food” too long. There’s a long list of size-ups to learn on paper, but they’re all very simple and feel natural in practice. Jump into 2KU Freestyle Practice to play around with different stick throw timings and you’ll get the hang of it after a few minutes.
Another new feature to prevent over-dribbling is the concept of Adrenaline Boosts. There are three available boosts per player, per possession, shown as three small bars under the stamina meter.
Boosts are consumed every time you perform a hard go or explosive sprint launch. Once your three boosts are gone, you’ll notice that your speed and acceleration decrease significantly for the remainder of the possession. As with dribble combos, it’s important to play smart basketball and be efficient with your movement rather than zig-zagging back and forth aimlessly trying to get around the defense.
Shooting also gets some nice upgrades for NBA 2K23. In NBA 2K22, success from the outside was heavily weighted toward coverage. If you could get an open look, you could balance out poor ratings and inaccurate timing. This year, we wanted a more authentic shooting model that captures the essence of a great NBA shooter’s capabilities.
The first major change is the addition of shooting attributes. Since the inception of signature jump shots in 2K basketball, animations have been more or less aesthetic but functionally the same. This year, each signature jump shot has unique shooting stats that help determine its effectiveness.
We’re also adding a huge number of shot animations to choose from, over double the amount of any previous version of 2K, and they're much more accurate to each player’s real-life jumper. For MyPLAYERs, shot animations will be gated by shooting ratings, so you’ll have to play around with all the options to figure out what works best for your skill set and playing style. We’re looking forward to seeing a lot more variety in the community’s sig shot selection with this next evolution of shots.
There are also five new shot meters to choose from, with 15 more that can be unlocked through Seasons over the coming year! Some big, some small, some above the head, some to the side, and some below the shooter. Each meter completely fills to the end, which is your ideal release point, then empties on the late side ala 2K17-2K20. The new shot meter options were a common ask from the community, so we’re sure everyone will find an option they like and then some.
You’ll also notice a subtle change to how shot feedback works this year. We use shot arcs to help indicate whether you’re early (high arc), late (flat arc), or on time (ideal arc), so by paying attention you can easily tell right away if your release is off. Also, with Shot Feedback enabled, we’re delaying the timing/coverage overlay and green release animations from coming up until the ball hits the basket. It’s a small change, but it really brings back some of the drama that the green lights sometimes lacked, and also encourages everyone to continue to play through the possession rather than giving up and getting back in transition early.
For the playmakers out there, you’ll find some new tools at your disposal as well. The Lead to Basket pass makes its return to New Gen so that it works the same way as Current Gen, allowing you to simply press and hold Y/TRIANGLE to get your receiver to cut to the basket and release the button to throw the pass.
Another alternative is the new Spot Up pass mechanic. If you press and hold B/CIRCLE, the receiver you’re pointing at with the left stick will perform a quick V or flare cut to get open on the perimeter. It’s a very useful quick-hitting play to get an open look when you don’t have time to run a full-blown play for your teammate. MyPLAYERs can also equip a signature passing style to mimic some of the best floor generals of all time, including Steph Curry, Magic Johnson, Jason Williams, LeBron James, and more.
Whether you prefer to drive the lane, back defenders down in the post, or spot up from behind the arc, NBA 2K23 offers a wide variety of tools that cater to your offensive gameplan.
As always, defense remains a huge priority for the gameplay team. We know all the offensive upgrades in the world don’t make for a fun game if there are no counters to stop them, so let’s talk about some of the great enhancements on the other end of the floor.
Shot defense received a nice overhaul for NBA 2K23. Up until last year, we used a simple shot defense calculation that looked at two specific points: the location of the defender when the shot started and the proximity to the ball at release. It worked well, but also had its shortcomings. If the defender’s hand or arm moved slightly into a bad position, right at the point of our shot release calculation, you could get a bad coverage score even though it looked like a very good contest.
This year, we’ve created a system that evaluates the defensive player’s contesting hand throughout a window of the shooting motion. This larger sample set provides way more accurate results and helps line up the coverage numbers to what players expect based on what they see happening on-screen.
For the floor game, on-ball defensive movement and body ups received a major refresh with new content that more accurately depicts today’s 1-on-1 player interactions. You’ll also notice a new indicator on the ball handler when in guarding position. This is the new defensive shading mechanic. The three bars on the indicator represent three zones: Straight up, Shade left, and Shade right. The zone the defender’s in is shown in red. If the ball handler attempts to attack a red lane, they’ll get cut off, lose their dribble, or fumble the ball.
Great defenders can anticipate where the ball handler is attacking and will now be more clearly rewarded for it. The shading system works for both on-ball defenders guarding the perimeter as well as the post and does a good job communicating to both the offense and defense why collisions resolve the way they do.
Shot blocking has been refined quite a bit this year as well. With NBA 2K22, we made a huge effort to improve block targeting and give players the ability to deter any shot that comes into the paint. For NBA 2K23, blocks have been tuned to a more realistic level, leading to much more predictable outcomes, with the right players making appropriate stops when timing their block attempts well. No more small guards pulling off LeBron James-level chase-down blocks like last year. You’ll also notice a distinct improvement in ball security for good dunkers.
In the past, it was always risky trying to pull off tomahawks and back scratchers with defenders even remotely nearby. We’ve made some changes to encourage good dunkers to use a greater repertoire of dunk packages. Feel the reward of highlight-reel dunks with significant Takeover boosts in the right situations without fear of always getting the ball knocked out on the way up. The shot blocking system also now contains “fly-by” blocks. When closing out late on perimeter shooters, the fly-by’s will do a better job trying to get a hand up while preventing defenders from slamming into the shooter and sending them to the line.
Ball strips are new and improved this year with tons of new content and better coverage. So if you’re a smaller defender, quick hands can be just as effective in slowing down slashers and bigs in the paint as a good shot blocker. We’ve also added failed strip contact layups to make sure defender’s steal inputs are respected instead of getting ignored.
When the ball does get knocked loose by a block or steal, you’ll see greatly improved sideline awareness during scramble plays. Pickups near the out of bounds lines are much more reliable, as are diving ball saves that throw the ball back in play. I’ve seen some amazing 50/50 ball saves that would make Dennis Rodman and Alex Caruso proud!
One of the first things everyone does when they pick up a new version of 2K is experiment with building a new MyPLAYER. This year, the major goals for the Player Builder were refinement, polish, and balance. You still have complete control to build any type of player you want, but the new builder ensures that all builds, regardless of size or specialty, are fun and balanced.
The 5v5 environment used last year to test work-in-progress player builds, is also now accompanied by a 3v3 environment. For New Gen players, this is especially useful if you love to hoop on the City courts and want to make sure your player can hang in the streets.
Another huge addition to the build system is that animation purchases will now be account-bound rather than specific to one save file. In other words, if you purchase an animation for your playshot build, it will then be available to equip on your slasher build, assuming your player meets all the animation’s requirements. For Current Gen users, you’re no longer limited by the pie chart build system from the last couple years as it’s been replaced with the more robust Player Builder that New Gen uses.
The most impactful change, when it comes to building players, is in the form of a new badge system for New Gen. When looking at telemetry from previous years, we noticed that players often gravitated towards the same badges and, as a result, became a little overpowered by stacking certain badges together. This year, we’re moving to a tiered badge system. There are 16 badges per attribute category: eight in Tier 1, four in Tier 2, and four in Tier 3. Tier 1 badges are the least powerful for your player, but also cost the least amount of badge points. Costs go up as you climb the tiers and acquire the more impactful badges. The basic idea is that you’ll need to equip a certain number of badges in the lower tiers before you can equip badges in the highest.
The motive behind this change was to encourage players to make some tough choices when creating their badge recipes, make loadouts more valuable as a feature, and bring a better overall balance to the badge game in general. Along with the tiers, we’re also introducing “Core” badges, which are four unique badge slots (one in each attribute category) that can be filled with badges that don’t count toward your badge points. Each badge will have a challenge requirement that, once met, will allow the badge to be placed into a core badge slot. We also made several changes to the badges themselves, which are highlighted below:
FINISHING
SHOOTING
PLAYMAKING
DEFENSE/REBOUNDING
Takeovers are special abilities you can equip on your MyPLAYER that you can activate after building up your Takeover meters. Basically, like getting hot in real life. While the primary and secondary Takeovers remain the same, Team Takeover has been redesigned.
In the last couple of versions, a player would activate Team Takeover for the entire team and make everybody hot after filling up the primary, secondary, and then Team Takeover meters in sequential order. For NBA 2K23, Team Takeover works as a cooperative team system with the entire team sharing a single meter. Each player on the team has an equal portion that they’re responsible for filling up by performing well on the court and being good teammates. Once each player has filled up their portion of the meter, Team Takeover automatically fires off for the entire team. The new design makes a lot more sense and does a better job representing what it means to be hot as a team and to take over the game as a unit.
NBA 2K23 is packed with AI goodness on both ends of the floor for new gen consoles. Here are some of the highlights that the AI engineers and Da Czar have cooked up for you.
The first thing we wanted to address this year was how the offensive AI uses its dribble move arsenal to attack. The goal was to make the AI more aggressive in setting up its moves, and more deliberate with what moves it used based on different situations. We’ve enhanced the AI’s ability to understand the defender’s positioning using the new defensive shading system we previously talked about. AI ball handlers will better assess the situation and then dip into their arsenal of moves to make the most appropriate attack. They now understand how to set up the defender, read the defender’s counter, and then attack openings with appropriate combos based on their move set and tendencies.
In order to make the AI attack more effective, we knew we had to mix up the timing of the AI’s drive attempts. To do this, we engineered the AI to prefer the earliest attack opening, or what we call, first move attack priority. If given the opportunity, the AI will attack quickly after a single move or before a move is even performed. However, if a user remains in great guarding position, the AI will continue to set up with single and double moves to try and create an opening.
In addition to making the AI ball handlers attack more intelligently, we also wanted to make sure they replicated their real life counterparts authentically. So, we built a brand new signature AI attack system that allows us to assign all of the stars a dynamic signature attack package that contains up to four signature combinations. Each single combination can contain up to 4 single move sets or two combo move sets. We can even create variations that allow for AI move progression.
For example, we can combine Kevin Durant’s between the legs cross, with a between the legs cross and step back. With early move priority, these moves won’t be scripted. He can launch and attack after the between the legs as a single move, or launch after the between the legs cross. If the user is still in great guarding position, he can decide to attack with any of the other combos in his attack package or just pull up for a shot. It’s a very powerful system that we can dynamically update throughout the season, and ensures that our AI is never predictable in its one-on-one game.
The next major improvement is the AI’s execution of the pick and roll. For NBA 2K23, the roll man understands how to keep a spacing relationship with the ball handler and can vary their roll path to the rim, based on the ball and how they’re being defended. To complement this, the AI passer has also been given a much better understanding of open vs. covered passing lanes, alley-oop opportunities, and lob pass opportunities over the top of the defense. You will have to check up on scorers coming off ball screens in this year’s game. The AI is acutely aware of what shots are available based on defensive coverage, so you’ll see AI scorers use a variety of reads to score on the pick and roll.
On the coaching side of things, dynamic game-plans give us flexibility in how the AI chooses to scheme their offenses from one game to the next. AI coaches will track efficiency by looking at points per possession for play types, freelance pick and roll, freelance post, and freelance isolation actions. They’ll also track mismatch attempts for isolation and post, as well as mid-range and three-point shooting possessions.
Instead of pre-determining between a team’s top scorers and who should get the lion’s share of the offensive possessions, the AI coach performs pre-game matchup evaluations, adding more weight to the player with the better matchup. It can also dynamically change weights as the game goes on based on efficiency for each scorer on the floor. If LeBron James has the better matchup and is scoring well, the game-plan will dive deeper and add more weight to the plays he’s most successful with. On the flip side, the AI will also adjust if their primary scorer is struggling. So, if LeBron is having an off night, you’ll see the 2nd and 3rd scoring options get more plays run for them.
Last year, we built and re-wrote almost all of our major defensive systems. This year was all about refining them to deliver our best effort to date. Every phase of our defensive game has improved. From transition defense, where we can identify when the ball handler has been picked up, allowing the anchor to leave the paint and get to their man, to making the “NO THREES” setting work as intended. Rotations are sharper and more varied; pick and roll defense is tighter and smarter; and this year, players can choose to turn off drive, pick and roll. We’ve also improved cutter help individually as well to have more control over their Defensive Focus settings.
NBA 2K23 also features performance-based defensive adjustments. In the past we knew how many points and assists the leading scorers had on offense and would make adjustments based on that information. However, the adjustments the AI made had to be generic because it wasn’t obvious how a given player racked up that scoring and assist total. This year our refactored success and action engine can track exactly how scorers are doing their damage. This engine can decipher post-scoring, off-screen actions, isolations and whether or not players are getting buckets at the rim. It can detect spot-up shots vs. players who like to come down and fire up long distance threes after a few dribble moves. Each of these scenarios have their own defensive adjustments that the AI will automatically roll out depending on how efficiently the scorers are making shots. As a user, with our adaptive engine turned on, these adjustments will automatically be made for you. But if you choose, you can also make your own adjustments using the defensive settings.
The defensive AI is stingier with sending help until we know the opponent can actually take advantage of a particular opening. So at the beginning of games, you may notice drastically less help as your teammates wait to see if your opponent can actually take advantage of an open lane compared to last year. Of course, you’re free to turn off the auto adjustments and make your teammates help right from the jump if that’s the way you want to run your defense.
This year, on both ends of the court, you’ll see improved gameplay that should translate to more wins, and more seamless actions. We can't wait for the community to experience this year’s gameplay, explore the all-new features, and discover a lot of the hidden things we’ve snuck into the game. Before he became Air Jordan, Michael Jordan spent three years at the University of North Carolina, where he made a name for himself after hitting a game-winning shot in the 1982 NCAA Championship his freshman year—the first of many iconic buzzer-beaters. \\r
MJ entered the league in 1984 as a lanky teen with clear potential, raw athleticism, and a hunger to become one of the greatest players and athletes the world has ever seen. In his first season in the NBA, he was selected for the All-Star team, earned Rookie of the Year, and averaged an absurd 28.2 points, unheard of for a first-year player. Jordan possesses rare skills that made it easy for him to transition from college to the pros, a transition many players struggle with across all sports.
\\r
It didn’t take long for Jordan's greatness to captivate Chicago, the United States, and the globe. In 1987 he defied the laws of gravity and took flight from the free-throw line in the Slam Dunk Contest, taking home the hardware as Slam Dunk champion. The ‘80s were filled with some of his most magical highlights, but what he’d go on to achieve in the ‘90s was a spectacle to behold.\\r
By 1991, Jordan and the Bulls had emerged as a powerhouse team in the Eastern Conference, taking down Patrick Ewing’s New York Knicks and Charles Barkley’s Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA Playoffs. Next up: a 4-1 series win over the Magic Johnson-led Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals, earning him his first of six championship titles. Jordan was truly a one-of-a-kind talent on the court, receiving five Most Valuable Player awards, 14 All-Star selections, a Defensive Player of the Year in 1988, and a trophy case full of other accolades. NBA 2K23 wouldn’t feel complete without one of the greatest to ever wear No. 23.
