NBA 2K26 casts players on a winding journey in MyCAREER: “Out of Bounds,” an immersive story-rich experience where you and your MyPLAYER must leave the humble beginnings of a small town in Vermont to chase a larger-than-life dream in the NBA.
On your road to stardom, you’ll travel to new horizons, clash with the biggest names in basketball, and compete in 16 pivotal Key Games—each with its own unique storyline—along the way.
In this guide, we’ll detail a handful of noteworthy Key Games, how to play them, and the Key Game rewards—let’s dive in.
HOW TO PLAY KEY GAMES
At the beginning and middle of each NBA season, you can select a new Key Game set by talking to Xander in your MyCOURT.
Once you’ve selected a Key Game set, go to the Play Next Game Calendar. There, you can sim to Key Games in one of two ways:
- Press the ‘X’ icon on Xbox or SQUARE on PlayStation
- Flick the right stick to switch the calendar to Key Game mode, where you’ll see only your Key Games
We encourage you to play every Key Game throughout the season to experience every aspect of MP’s story.
KEY GAME REWARDS
Aside from the compelling storylines and competitive rivalries, Key Games offer an added incentive for completing them, Dynasty Badges. These give your teammates significant boosts that can make your MyCAREER experience a more rewarding one.
For instance, earning the “Up and Coming” Dynasty Badge, by successfully completing the Rookie of the Year or Second Round Sleeper Key Game, will help your teammates improve quicker their first five seasons in the NBA. Earning the Home Court Advantage Dynasty Badge will award your teammates with significant boosts on offense during the fourth quarter of home games.
Complete every Key Game to reap the rewards and see an uptick in your teammates’ skills on the court.

NBA KEY GAME STORIES
There are 16 Key Games in MyCAREER; these range from earning an All-Star selection, to more unexpected stories, like your mom getting a little too involved with social media. Below are some of the Key Games the Visual Concepts team are particularly fond of.
Matchup Mayhem
‘MP’ tries to prove he’s the best player at his position, while his mom gets carried away defending him against trolls on social media. Can MP get his mom to relax and stop creating a distraction in the media? You’ll have to play Matchup Mayhem to find out!
Defend Your Turf
In this series of Key Games, you’ll defend home court and completing the challenges will earn you a bobblehead of your MyPLAYER that you can proudly display to your friends in your MyCOURT.
Put ‘Em On A Poster
MP promises to posterize one of the best rim protectors in the league. In his determination to throw down on the league’s premier defenders, there’s a lot of trash talk as a result. This emotionally charged Key Game is one you’ll want to participate in.
Race for the Cup
MP learns about Coach Ray Hopkins’ backstory while trying to lead his team to an NBA Cup championship. Carry some added inspiration into the big game and raise the Cup.
Rival Ruckus
Everyone has haters—and MP is no exception. In Rival Ruckus you’ll learn some interesting details about a main character and challenge some of your most bitter rivals.
Walking Bucket
MP’s “Out of Bounds” show on social media gets sponsored by CogniVibe, a sleep mask with alleged healing properties. As you try to prove you’re the best scorer in the Association, this dreamy sponsor begins looking more like a nightmare.
Defense Wins Championships
MP sets his sights on trying to win Defensive Player of the Year in this Key Game that sets the scene with an introduction to many of MP’s friends and family from home. Of course, MP’s mom, dad, and coach Dion Benjamin all make an appearance, with plenty of input on what makes a true Defensive Player of the Year.
Bag Work
It’s not enough just to score nowadays, you need to have a deep bag of moves also. In Bag Work, MP must complete a different scoring animation in each Key Game. If you’ve got handles and a nasty crossover, this is the time to show it off.
Most Valuable Player
Prior to this Key Game tipping off, MP learns that his dad has been rushed to the hospital. Fueled by this news, MP is on a mission to prove he’s the league’s Most Valuable Player, taking on other MVP contenders and pulling off incredible feats to make his case, like playing an entire game shooting with his off-hand in honor of Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird.

THE PLAYOFFS
In addition to the 16 Key Games that occur during the regular season, there’s bonus story content in the Playoffs! If you lead your franchise to a Playoff berth your rookie year, you’ll activate a new dedicated story arc the further you advance in the postseason.
First Round
An NBA reporter boldly predicts that MP will choke in the first round of the Playoffs, igniting a fire to silence the critics.
Conference Semifinals
Everything that can go wrong will go wrong in this round; MP must overcome a series of obstacles to advance to the penultimate round.
Conference Finals
MP gets reckless and makes an irresponsible prediction, ruffling feathers in his own locker room and it seeps into the team chemistry on the court.
NBA Finals
Every game you win during the NBA Finals will unlock a cutscene with someone close to MP, revealing newfound layers to his backstory.
